Sustainability is finding itself at the front of more and more organisers minds - and for good reason! Events can be incredibly wasteful if not managed properly but good green credentials can make all the difference.
Central Hall Westminster has some serious green credentials in terms of sustainable venue hire in London.
The not-for-profit has a whole host of eco-friendly practices including supplying organisers with a checklist of ways they could minimise the impact of their event. From delegate transport to waste prevention, catering to energy consumption, they provide alternatives to help keep your impact low from beginning to end.
They even offer a carbon calculator to help organisers understand how much CO2 could be produced from their event, giving them the chance to offset it - brilliant!
Over in West London, W12 Conferences is showing other venues how sustainable events should be done.
Here, you know as soon as you book your event, you've made a difference. They bottle all their own water on-site, aim to make sure food is as locally-sourced as possible, recycle all waste materials and have countless energy-saving, measures in place.
Organisers don't have to do a thing (other than book this conference venue in London!).
BMA House really takes the cake when it comes to sustainable venues in London.
They're one of just 6 venues in the city to have received Green Tourism's Gold award for their sustainable efforts. Impressive! They were also awarded 'Greenest Venue' by Hirespace in 2018 and 2019 as well as a number of other sustainability related awards over the years.
They offer bike racks on site to encourage carbon-free transit, ensure all waste materials are recycled venue-wide, use sustainable and locally-grown food in their catering and thats only the tip of the iceberg! Learn more about what they have in place: https://bmahouse.org.uk/sustainability/
This central London venue is widely recognised for its green efforts. Besides its 'zero waste to landfill' policy and strict plastic-free measures, they also hold some offical accreditations to show for their efforts.
They received the ISO 14001 accreditation way back in 2013 (ISO is an international standard for sustainability and not easy to achieve) and were the first venue in the UK to hold certification of the NQA Sustainable Development Management Scheme.
Touting itself as one of the worlds most sustainable buildings, this is not a venue to be ignored!
Rainwater is collected on the roof and used in the venue. There are 15 e-vehicle charging points and plenty of easy public transport links. Solar panels allow it to generate 20% of its own electricity. They use natural heating sources (17km of ground source pipes) so their heating bill is £0.
All in all, this is tough to beat!
