This Schanzenviertel brick icon is popular amongst everyone for their Hamburgers, meaning the food and also the local people, the spacious outdoor bench seating up on the hill next to the U3 and S Bahn stop, and the thick pommes (french fries) that you dip in this flaky sea salt for flavor!
Mainly a lunch spot for me, but for dinner, it gets romantic, as there are soft candles glowing everywhere and a basic, but classy menu offering fish, meats, and pastas. I had a wrapped baked fish once with steamed veggies and herbs that was not only healthy but had a nice wholesome flavor to it. Portions are plentiful and prices are fair.
The staff speaks limited English, because it really is more a local spot, but the chef here is famous and for such a reputation, the food is delicious and affordable.
Now they have this outdoor grilling area for Kalbbratwurst or normal bratwurst and also for those tasty french fries we all love. They make a relish mayo sauce or something with herb that gives it a slight yellow/green tone, but it tastes awesome with the fries and get some salt flakes also. It is some special sea salt that looks like light snow flakes, you can not order fries here without that!!!
The Groenning private brewery house offers a very nice and rustic ambiente. It is a perfect place to enjoy some drinks and good beerfood. The food is heavy german fare, such as roasted pig and sausages. It is also a perfect place to go to with a large group, because you can order a 10 Liter beer barrel for approx. 75,-- Euro and then serve yourself right at the table, which is a lot of fun!
A café built just for me! All serious coffee drinkers dream about it. Friendly, helpful staff, owners anxious about their coffee choices and lots of space - well at least that's what I dream about, whenever I go out for coffee.
Tastefully and comfortably furnished? here in the Pauline Café & Bistro located in Hamburg enjoys spending it on themselves. The latest home-cooked meals and home-baked cakes are also convince you of that. Watch the chefs in the open kitchen already preparing for and discover the three individually designed rooms of the café? the bright and welcoming entrance hall, the dining room on the first floor and the living room, where you will immediately feel at home. Relaxing after the hearty breakfast of homemade bread, cheese and sausage selection and freshly prepared egg dishes on the couch or do you refer to and explore many of the city!
A great bottle shop just opened in Sternschanze this week called Craft Beer Store. I was impressed by their selection and price. A few beers I've bought in other stores in Hamburg were a euro or two cheaper here. There were plenty of beers from Germany, the U.K., and Belgium. They also had a few U.S. ones. I was told by a guy at the register if I want to see something in the store just to ask and they'll try to bring it in.
