Best Surf Sites in Galle – Let the Waves Challenge You

In Sri Lanka, you find many surfing spots that have ideal wave conditions. In addition to what you find in the Eastern parts of the country, you also find some of the country's best surf sites in Galle. Most of these sites are not so crowded, so you may enjoy your moments as you wish.

1

Weligama Beach Break

If you are holidaying at the Fortress Resort and Spa, this surf site is located just about 12 kilometres away (a 16-minute ride by car). Don't worry even if you are just a beginner, because this surf spot is ideal for newbies as well. By the time you reach the Weligama bay, you'll see a lot of learners trying out their body balance on the surfboard, and you may also join the crowd. If you need expert instructions, many instructors will offer their services at a relatively cheap rate.

2

Gurubebila Coconut Point

This is another picturesque bay you find in Sri Lanka. This is regarded as an A-frame reef break and this is more suitable for intermediate and advanced levels surfers with a considerable amount of practice and expertise. Paddle out from the beach or simply jump off the reef to access the peak, after which, it'll all be about enjoying an awesome surfing adventure. This surf point is also known as Coconuts. The beach is secluded, and you can have a relaxing time here if your schedule permits.

3

Kabalana

This A-frame peak offers long barrels on either side. Because of this reason, adventure seekers often find this surfing spot much more awesome than the rest. Since surfing is hailed as one of the most popular and demanded things to do in Galle Sri Lanka by tourists, Kabalana gets very busy and crowded during the peak season. If you intend to enjoy your moments to the fullest, you may go during the offseason. Then, the waves will be all yours to play with until sundown!

4

Hikkaduwa Reef

The town Hikkaduwa is often visited by tourists when they come to the Southern parts of Sri Lanka. It's a fishing town that offers many things to do and explore, and surfing is one of them. Its beach welcomes surfers of every sort, from beginners to experts. Beginners find themselves so comfortable with this beach break, but since many of them gather here during the peak season, it'll be too crowded for you to try your moves peacefully. This is also an A-frame reef, best to be explored during the off-peak season.

5

Mirissa Beach Break

Mirissa is also another coastal town, which is popular among the tourists who come to Sri Lanka. The Mirissa Bay is also considered as a picturesque place mainly because of the palm trees all around. Here, you can find a relatively mellow wave, which helps surfers with all skill levels. Dedicated surfing schools are here if you want to learn from the basics, and they are ready to rent out the equipment you need as well.
