How to Easily Change a Tire

Maybe you know how to change a tire, but worry that it will not be as easy as you think if you actually had to get down on your knees and do it. So here’s a quick five step guide that makes changing a tire as simple as can be.

1

Find the Tools

Find the Tools

For most cars, you will need to get used to knowing where your tool kit is. Usually it will be found under the floor in the trunk. If there isn’t a tool kit there, you might have to get your own and keep them in the car. This should include a jack and a tire iron.

2

Carefully loosen the nuts

Carefully loosen the nuts

The tire is held on by a series of nuts that can be easily loosened and then removed. Make sure to do this before jacking the car. Use the tire iron to grip the nuts. Then apply pressure to release tension that holds them on. This may take a few tries, but you will get it eventually.

3

Jack the car off the ground

This step can be a little tricky if it is your first time using a jack or changing a tire. Take the jack and place it in the slot that is on the frame of the car near the wheel. As you tighten the jack, the car should raise up. Don’t be concerned with some awkward creaking noises, its harmless.

4

Remove the blown tire and fit the good one

Thanks to step two, this part should be fairly easy. Just pull the tire off the axle and set it safely on the ground. Take the new tire and fit it onto the outlying screws.

5

Replace the nuts and tighten

Replace the nuts and tighten

Make sure the nuts are on properly before tightening as not to strip the thread. Then you will really be in trouble. Tighten all the way so that they will not come loose while driving. Then, tighten a little more, just to be safe. You basically want to follow a star formation, go across the diagonal. Then release the jack and the car will now be securely back on the ground. Remove jack and you’re ready to go.
