Listly by Kyle Hunt
What do Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman and Kim Kardashian all have in common? They are all surprisingly rather small. Each under 5’3, they manage to pack a lot of excitement into rather tiny frames. The same is true with this years hot hatchbacks. They are small in size, yet all rather large in excitement value. Car manufacturers, for this we say thank you.
It seems that every new hatchback that has been released is worth taking a look at, but here are just a few that really caught my attention:
First on this list is the new Ford Fiesta ST. It seems that Ford new range of cars have used a lot of new design techniques, because they are stunners. Loaded with endless extras and options, you can truly make the Fiesta your own. Not only can you get 38mpg, but it also packs a nice little punch from the engine too. At around $14,000, it is also great value.
The Hyundai is a surprise in this field. We all know that they make small cars, but now they are making really good small cars. The styling on the Hyundai, both inside and out, is refreshing. With similar numbers to the Fiesta, it is just preference, but they Hyundai’s do keep their value well.
The Sonic first grabbed our attention with its incredible advertisements, and then we got to see it. It didn’t let us down. With the option of a turbo, this car can really get up and go. It kicks out 138hp out of its 1.8L engine. It’s not quite as fuel efficient as the other two, but it does fine.
Designed to fully utilize a small family cars potential, the Fit ends up lacking in a few crucial areas. It does provide you with plenty of space, which is useful when used for its intents and purposes. It struggles on gas mileage compared to other options such as the Fiesta. Cruise control comes standard, which is a bonus. Overall though, I feel the Fit has some serious catching up to do.
Far and away the most powerful car of the bunch. Its 30-year legacy is upheld with its current model. With a 2.5L, 170hp engine you are sure to have some fun in Utah with this one. Styling is as gorgeous as ever for a hatchback, but you pay for it. The priciest one of the bunch, but I feel that performance wise, it is head and shoulders above the rest.
My personal favorite of the lot. Fantastic styling, great handling, surprising fuel economy and a fair amount of power, allow the Focus to hold the number one spot. The 2.0L engine kicks out 160hp, more than enough to enjoy some good roads with, while still being extremely economical. Closer to the $18,000 mark, this one is not the cheapest, but I feel if used properly, the most enjoyable pick you can make.
