A Complete Guide to Sathorn Bangkok – Navigating the Busy Streets

Bangkok is one of the most visited cities in South East Asia and there is a lot to see and do here. One of the best locations in the city is the famed Sathorn District. From charming sights to amazing street food, here's a closer look at everything it has to offer.

1

What is Sathorn

Sathorn is often seen as one of the main business districts of Bangkok. Every day, you'll find hundreds of men and women in business suits and pants rushing across the streets here in a seemingly endless hustle. Most of the district is a litany of banks and skyscrapers. Now, at a glance, this might not seem like the most ideal location for tourists to explore but looks can be deceiving. What Sathorn lacks in reputation, it more than makes up for in the hospitality department. Here you'll find an amazing array of hotels to choose from, restaurants to dine in and the easily-accessible transport systems make getting around trivial. And all this isn't to say that there aren't some great attractions hidden away in the busy streets of Sathorn!

What's There to See and Do

So then, what are the best places to visit and things to do in the district? Well, you can start off by visiting the charming heritage home of Mr. Kukrit. This home is often compared to one of the more famous Bangkok attractions – Jim Thompson's House. However, Mr. Kukrit's Heritage Home is far less known and this means it gets very little crowds on any given day. So, take advantage of the secluded nature of the venue and take in all the amazing sights, artwork, and architecture the house provides. Lumphini Park – one of the best green spaces in Bangkok – can all be found within Sathorn. This is a great visit if you wish to take it easy and enjoy some respite from the city's constant hustle and bustle. There are a couple of prominent Thai temples here as well, namely the Wat Yanawa and Wat Prok.

Getting Around

Sathorn has a well-developed transport system that will make getting around the district a cinch. The sky trains are by far the standout in this regard. These elevated electric trains will help you zip across the district at record speeds. You can also enjoy boat services from the Central Pier and travel along the Chao Phraya River. Not only is this a fast and efficient way to travel, but it will also net you a number of great photo opportunities as well.

4

Dining Options

When it comes to dining, Sathorn has everything from mouth-watering street food to elegant high-class dining. If you are in the mood for some tasty street snacks, Suan Plu Road is where you want to go. Here you'll find plenty of vendors that are willing to offer up some authentic Thai street cuisine. Conversely, if you want to try something a little up-market, be sure to check out the restaurants of Soi Suan Plu.

Where to Stay

There's a great selection when it comes to accommodation options in Sathorn. You can go for more budget bed and breakfast options or settle for something mid-range as well. For those looking for more luxurious accommodation options, perhaps try an establishment like the Chatrium Residence Sathorn Bangkok.
