Best Night Markets to Visit in Koh Samui – Shopping Has Never Been This Fun!

Koh Samui is one of the best regions to visit in Thailand, particularly if you're interested in immersing yourself in the local culture. The night markets of Samui are a highlight here – a visit to one of these can be quite a unique experience. Here're the best options available to you.

1

Fishermens' Village

Most markets in Thailand have a reputation for being crowded and boisterous, but you'll find quite the opposite scene here in Fisherman's Village Walking Street. This sleepy section of Samui is perfect for a relaxing evening out. There is a great selection of wares to choose from here despite the relatively calm nature of the market. You can find everything here from rare fabrics to hand-crafted jewellery and even a great collection of souvenirs. If you're planning to visit, the market is open every Friday from 5 pm to 11 pm and is found along the Bophut Beach Road.

2

Elephant Walk

Elephant Walk is a small but charming night market that's found very close to the aforementioned Fisherman's Village. This market is perfect if you're on the lookout for some quirky gifts or some authentic Samui handicrafts. The gravelled pathways and decorative elephant statues – the market's namesake – also imbue the place with a cheerful atmosphere. All in all, the Elephant Walk Market is a great place to explore and enjoy an evening out at.

3

Lamai Night Plaza

If you're staying at a centrally located hotel or resort Koh Samui has on offer – say, for example, the AVANI+ Samui Resort – you owe it to yourself to visit the Lamai Night Plaza. The night market is located at the heart of a bar and beer square that's known for its lively atmosphere and party mood. Indeed, you'll find plenty of friendly patrons here who are willing to indulge in some friendly conversation. The items on offer here are quite varied and relatively cheap at that.

4

Chaweng Night Market

Contrary to its name, the Chaweng Night Market isn't a full-fledged shopping precinct. Instead, it's a great place to hang out, enjoy some good food and pick up some souvenirs at. The market itself was based around the popular Star Gym fitness centre that's found right next to the market. By far, the highlights here are all the fantastic dining options that are available to you. These offer a great selection of traditional Thai food that's sure to leave your taste buds singing. Don't worry if you want to taste some international flavours either, restaurants here will serve up some delicious European dishes as well!

5

Chaweng Walking Street

Fancy sipping on a delicious cocktail as you peruse through the offerings of a Thai street market? If that answer is yes, Chaweng Walking Street is the place you want to be at. The pathways of this market are drabbed in vibrant colours and full of funky music. There're drinks around every corner here alongside cafes for you to dine at. All in all, if you really want to have a great time while shopping, you can't go wrong with Chaweng Walking Street.
