Swachh Bharat mission is one of the most accepted and Important movements in the History of India. The purpose of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is to extend the awareness of cleanliness and its significance.
The concept of Swachh Bharat Mission, is to offer necessary sanitation amenities like village hygiene and sufficient drinking water to the public. We can call it the best tribute to the Nation Swachh Bharat Mission.
Swachh Bharat mission was commenced by the Government of India to resolve the troubles of sanitation and waste management in India by ensuring hygiene across the country. The main focus of the project is to construct sanitation amenities and provide every rural family with a toilet.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directly associated clean India with economic health. This mission has provided a resource of employment to many people, adds to the GDP expansion, and reduced health costs to an amount.
Undoubtedly cleanliness is connected to the country’s tourism and global wellbeing. More tourism will bring more profits. India needs to have high standards of hygiene and cleanliness to alter the overall global perspective of the country.
This mission is the social program taken up by the Government of India to improve hygiene principles. This movement has helped in clearing out the streets, roads and, infrastructure facilities in many cities, small towns, and rural areas of India. High-levels of support have helped in reducing open defecation and encourage building household-owned and community-owned toilets. It has elevated the cleanliness and sanitation standards in the country.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development has commenced Swachh Vidyalaya Programme under the Swachh Bharat Mission to arrange separate toilets for boys and girls in all government schools. The program plans to guarantee that every school in the country must have a set of necessary involvements relate to both technical and human development elements of a good Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Program.
Even though the situation has improved, but more has to be done in provisions of hygiene and sanitation. Unsafe drinking water, poor access to apposite sanitation amenities, and insufficient hand washing is cause for poor health.
This project has required financial and technical support from the World Bank. Plentiful corporate and private organizations were requested to join the movement as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme. Various non-profit organizations also joined the movement.

ROLE OF BPCL IN SWACHH BHARAT MISSION
**SWACHH ICONIC PLACE – MADURAI MEENAKSHI TEMPLE: The temple is located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu and BPCL has been active in making many public utilities and amenities obtainable for the pilgrims and tourists like E-Toilets, drinking water facility, ATMs, e-vehicles for older people and movable infirmary. To ensure city hygiene and waste management, also provided garbage disposer for waste management, and garbage disposer trucks.
SWACHH ICONIC PLACE – SRI ADI SHANKARACHARYA JANMBHOOMI TIRTH: The Sri Adi Sankaracharya Janmasthan in Kerala was designated to BPCL for its preservation and creating amenities for tourists and pilgrims. In this project, BPCL is providing activities like public sanitation amenities, clean drinking water, renewal of walkways and drainage conveniences, sewage management plant and other public amenities.
“BANDICOOT”- ROBOTIC MANUAL SCAVANGING MACHINE: *To decrease and eradicate the practice of physical scavenging, BPCL has supported City Corporation for the acquisition of 2 robotic manhole clean-up machines – “Bandicoot”. This is the sole technical key for removal of physical scavenging in the country
*URBAN SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT: *BPCL has partnered with City Corporation to install 33 micro composting units which have encouraged source separation, reduced the load on landfills and assured recycling and composting of solid waste.
*PROVISION OF FREE CLEAN DRINKING WATER: BPCL has established Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants arranging clean drinking water in schools, bus-stands and other public places. Along with the RO, water storage tanks were equipped to insure continuous delivery of clean drinking water to avoid spread of sickness due to impure water.
CONSTRUCTION OF SANITATION UNITS: BPCL has constructed and renovated more than 4300 hygiene units since 2014, such as community sanitation complexes, school sanitation blocks and household toilets. In addition, BPCL has provided E-toilets, toilets for the handicapped and mobile toilets at some locations.
