5 Hidden Features of Your iPhone – Optimising Your Smartphone Use!

Do you think you know your iPhone inside out? You may be surprised to learn that there are several "hidden" features which can make your life easier; without further ado here are some of these features that may surprise newbies and even some iPhone enthusiasts too!

1

Option to Hide Photos

While you may gladly share photos on social media, there will be some you want to keep private. Of course, doing so may not be easy if faced with an instance you need to hand the phone to a friend or family member. The good news is that you can hide photos on an iPhone so they won't show up when someone browses through the library! Choose the image/s from the "photos" section, tap the "share" button and select "hide". The image/s will be hidden from view and can be found in a "hidden album" folder.

2

The Use of Nicknames

Did you know you could add nicknames for your contacts which can also be utilised by Siri? This will make calling easier and apart from nicknames, you can also assign relationships such as "mom", "brother" or any other easy to recall title. You will need to tap "edit" on a particular contact card followed by "add field"; choose the "nickname" option. You can add relationships to contacts by editing your contact card; tap "edit", add the name, choose from different relationships and then hit "i" to link it with a contact.

3

Track Your Sleep

This is another great feature; the phone will remind you when it's bedtime, help to keep away interruptions and tracks your sleep history too! This feature can be found on various models including iPhone 11, available on sites like Urban.lk which offer genuine Apple Sri Lanka products. You can access this feature by tapping the "bedtime" link in the "clock" app. You can set what time you want to get up, the alarm sound and when you want to go to bed; you will get a reminder when it's bedtime while the phone will track your sleep targets and enable "Do Not Disturb" mode automatically too.

4

Trackpad Feature

With this handy feature, you can turn the keyboard of your iPhone into a trackpad. This offers greater flexibility and accuracy when it comes to moving the cursor minus the need to tap the screen. Of course, to enjoy this feature you will need 3D touch capabilities on your iPhone. On the keyboard, press and hold down on any point; the keyboard will go blank and once this happens, move the cursor through the text by dragging your finger.

5

Use the Camera as a Magnifier

Depending on the situation, there may be instances (like having to read small text) when in need of a magnifier. In such cases, your iPhone will come in handy; open "accessibility" in "settings" and tap on "magnifier" to enable it. Once that's done, open the camera app and tap the side button three times (or "home" button depending on the model) which will open the magnifier. There is a slider to increase magnification which can be more than the zoom of the camera.
