One of the great gifts we received during the coronavirus lockdown was that a lot of Art galleries putting their artwork online for everyone to see. It gave us a little teaser of the art around the world. But nothing beats experiencing it in real life. Visit some art festivals when lockdown lifts.

Venice Biennial

The oldest and biggest contemporary art exhibitions in the world, the Venice Biennial was established in 1895 and is held every two years. It attracts 300,000 visitors each time and is a celebration of some classic pieces like Urs Fischer's wax rendition of Giovanni Bologna's The Rape of the Sabine Women which was showcased in 2011 among many others.

Art Basel Switzerland

Art Basel in Switzerland is one that was established in 1970. It has grown rapidly into one of the most popular and important events that attract art dealers and curators from all over the world. In 2002, Miami spawned a smaller version of the event named Art Basel Miami. The original event has been dubbed "the premier international art show of the world." The Art Basel festival runs from the 14th of June to the 17th of June and features over 2500 to 3000 artists from 300 galleries across 36 countries. It is one of the most sort-after local arts and crafts shows in Europe over the summer.

Foire Internationale d'Art Contemporain in France

Monumental art displays are what you will find when you visit the Foire Internationale d'Art Contemporain which is held every October in France. Called the International Fair of Contemporary Art in English, the festival was first held in 2006 at the Grand Palais propelling it to global fame. You will find it mentioned in art sites the likes of Events and Festivals Blog among other places. Over 178 galleries from 24 countries attend annually and keep growing with each year that passes.

Frieze Art Fair London

The Frieze Art Fair in London takes place in Regent's Park every October. There are over 170 art galleries that attend to showcase their curated collections. As such Frieze is considered as a very important art event in the London calendar. It is one of those exhibits that bring out the international talent and give them a place from which they can be shared at an almost viral capacity.

Biennale of Sydney

The Biennale of Sydney is one of the largest contemporary art shows in Australia. From the time of its inception, it has been focused on introducing fresh and provocative pieces of art to the world. The Biennale of Sydney usually takes place from June to September bringing artists and curators from around the world for a 4-month long showcase that takes over the entire city. If you are in Sydney during this time, you will not be able to escape its influence which is everywhere. Every year more than 100 artists take part in the festival.
