List of best things to eat and drink in Yangon – It’s a foodies’ paradise

No matter when you have set your plans to visit Yangon, its ever-pleasant people are ready to welcome you with their wide smiles. But did you know its not just the people? Yangon's most unique food culture also awaits you to surprise you while also delighting you.

1

Mohinga

Mohinga is a noodles dish that's more like the national dish of Myanmar. You will find taste differences in the same dish when you try it from different stalls, and they will vary in their prices as well. But on average, this dish which has fish gravy, fish meat, boiled eggs, and even sliced banana blossom is affordable in Yangon.

2

Pork Noodles

This is a very popular dish among the people who pass by the Aung San Bongyoke Market. A dish of pork noodles may have a strange aroma (sometimes totally unfamiliar to you), but it's guaranteed to be delicious. You have to try this noodle dish with pig intestines with chili sauce if you want to make it a little sweeter.

Local BBQ options

There are BBQ stalls in Yangon that are specialised in offering local BBQ options. Some of these BBQ stuff may be familiar to you, but some of them can be very new. Fish, meat, vegetables, and mushrooms, are all included in their BBQ recipes and sometimes you may even choose what you need and they'll give them to you on skewers.

4

Falooda / Faluda

If it's a very hot day in Yangon that you are passing, let a glass of falooda (or faluda) cool you down. It's a very sweet cold beverage in Yangon that's made by mixing rose syrup with milk, water, basil seeds, and ice cream (sometimes they also include jelly pieces). In Yangon, it's mainly the Indian Muslims who run falooda spots, and you may just enjoy your falooda while sitting outside.

5

Mandalay Beer

In Myanmar (also in Yangon) you can easily find the Myanmar beer, but not the Mandalay Beer. It's the bottle that comes with a red label, and it's so far, the best beer to try in Yangon. It's nice enough to make you forget your mood, quench your thirst and give you some extra energy if you've been craving a cold one lately.

Where to eat and drink in Yangon?

In Yangon, it's not always about the street food scene. Any hotel in Yangon the likes of Sedona Hotel Yangon can grant you a dining experience truly authentic if you choose it right. But, if you opt for a street food experience, know that there's no hard and fast rule as to how to select a good stall, but you may always choose a stall that has more people than the rest. You will be able to find simple foods such as salads mainly outside the Yangon markets and attractions, and you may have these if the hunger you have is small and easily satisfiable.
