Top Things to do in Queenstown After Dark – A Night Out in the City

Queenstown has a reputation for being one of the best regions to visit in New Zealand. And all the fun doesn't stop once the sun goes down, there's plenty to do here after dark. So, here's a look at some of the best things you can do in Queenstown once evening settles in.

1

Gaze at the Stars

The night sky that looms over Queenstown can be amazing to look at from certain locations. Light pollution is relatively low here in the city, and as such, the skies here are lit up with intricate star patterns and familiar constellations. For the best view, consider a night trip to Bob's Peak. From up here in the mountains, the skies stretch forever and the stars illuminate the charming woods that surround the mountain. During the summer season, you can also make a trip to the Cadrona Alpine Centre in order to learn more about the stars from an expert astronomer while exploring the galaxies using a high-powered telescope.

2

Enjoy a Cruise

Few things are as charming and as intimate as a nightly cruise out of Queenstown Bay. This evening cruise is a relatively regular occurrence that takes place during the winter months, taking you through the lake and towards Frankton Arm. On the boat, you can also enjoy some rare New Zealand delicacies or treat yourself to a flurry of international flavours. The best part of the cruise is seeing the starry night reflected across the surface of Lake Wapiti – it's a truly magical scene that will stick with you for years to come. If you're staying at one of the Lakefront apartments Queenstown has on offer – say, for example, the Oaks Queenstown Shores Resort – there's no reason for you to miss out on this.

Thrilling Indoor Activities

There's a lot of fun stuff to try out indoors as well – in fact, that's where you'll find some of the most exciting thrills that Queenstown has to offer. If you really want to get your adrenaline going, consider a visit to the Fear Factory. Here you can roam the haunted corridors of the Lockhart Hotel and see if you have the mettle to make it through to the end. If you want something a bit less horrific, there are a number of escape rooms to try out here as well – it's a great choice for a group activity. You can also visit the aptly named Thrillzone to try your hand at go-karting or ice-skating.

4

Queenstown's Nightlife

Queenstown has quite a bit of nightlife going for it as well. Here you'll find a number of bars and karaoke joints that truly come alive once the sun sets. The town centre is generally the hub for this scene, and there's a number of dance clubs to choose from here too.

5

Relax in the Hot Pools

If you just want to kick back and relax once night falls, consider a trip to Queenstown's spas. Options like the Alpine Aqualand come with hot pools that are perfect to relax in while enjoying a nice cold beverage. Most hotels will also offer their own hot pools, so be sure to check what's available with your accommodation provider.
