Tips for Safe Air Travel – How to Stay Safe During COVID19

Despite the coronavirus pandemic still being a real threat, the time has come for the whole world to slowly try to return to a semblance of normal life under the ever-present threat. So if you find that you have no choice but to travel during COVID19, here are some tips to keep yourself safe.

1

Seating Arrangements

One of the most important aspects of keeping the COVID19 virus away is by social distancing whenever possible. This is why even in Maldives island resorts that are in a somewhat remote situation, guests are booked into only half of the rooms to provide ample opportunity to maintain a 2-metre distance. On a plane, this would mostly depend on carrying half the usual load. If the airline you are travelling in hasn't adhered to it, you can ask them to please ensure that no one is seated on the seats beside you on opposite sides. If you have the opportunity to pick your own seat, always opt for the window seat as a rule.

2

Preparing for Your Flight

On the days that lead up to your scheduled flight date, it is recommended that you make an effort in boosting your immune system. While it won't prevent you from catching the virus, it will reduce the chances and in case you get it, you will be able to recover from it faster. Get ample sleep, take vitamin C and D religiously and eat a healthy diet. Avoid getting cold or wet in the rain or catching a cold of some kind.

3

Point Your Air Vent Away

When you are seated on the plane ask the cabin crew to help you point any air vents from being directly on your body. Especially point it away from your face.

4

Wear Sunglasses

Of course, you should be wearing your masks at all time when you are on board the plane. But for a little added protection, consider getting a face shield if possible. If it isn't possible, you can always wear sunglasses to keep your eyes protected. Have sanitiser with you and apply it whenever you can. Remember to adhere to the basic rules of masks and sanitiser so you can keep yourself and your fellow passengers safe.

5

Don't Wear Gloves

Contrary to popular belief, wearing gloves helps to spread the virus particles. You will probably get lethargic about washing your hands or touching your face if you are wearing gloves and as such the threat could actually be increased if you opt to protect your hands. It is your face – eyes, nose, mouth – that require the most protection. Don't wear gloves, rather opt to wash your hands regularly instead.

6

Do Your Research

Read up on airline policies for your choice of the airline before you book with them and pay attention to all the health and safety guidelines. If you are going to stay at a hotel the likes of Hard Rock Hotel Maldives, read the hotel policies on protection against the virus and follow them to the letter.
