When you are learning how to drive, especially a manual vehicle at Toyota Irvine CA, you may start to feel a bit overwhelmed. You may feel as though there is so much to remember, too many steps involved, and it all starts to feel too complicated. Plus, when you don’t have access to a manual transmission car, your goal of learning how to drive a stick might seem impossible to achieve.
While you might be tempted to borrow a friend’s car or to purchase the cheapest (and probably crappiest) three-pedal lemon you can find, it would probably serve you best to purchase something that has a warranty from Toyota of Orange, an Irvine car dealership. Perhaps a Toyota Corolla, or a Toyota Corolla Apex!
Driving
The Toyota Corolla Apex at Toyota Irvine CA is a limited edition Corolla for 2021. The powertrain isn’t any different. It is a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder that generates 169 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque. It is available in a six-speed manual with rev-matching for downshifts.
Now here is the catch: Toyota only made 120 out of the 6,000 Apex models available with a manual transmission. So, the rest have the CVT. On the bright side, the CVT transmission does have a simulated 10 gears.
If you go for the manual transmission vehicle at Toyota Irvine CA, you should be aware that it is based on the SE trim, while the CVT is based on the XSE trim. A manual transmission has an MRSP of about $26,000 whereas the CVT has an MRSP of about $29,000.
The Corolla Apex goes from 0 to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds. The EPA estimates are 31 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. The car weighs 3,055 pounds. The vehicle has a cat-back exhaust that adds a pleasant noise that motorheads love to hear.
Customers will find that the Toyota Corolla Apex is a lot sportier to drive. Also, the Apex Edition has more visual flairs compared to a standard Corolla. For starters, there is a new front fascia in bronze and black trims, standard LED headlights, new lower side skirts, a new rear bumper, and an optional rear wing.
The wheels are a new black, 18-inch design that is both lighter and engineered to improve brake cooling. The Corolla Apex is available in three colors: white, black, and grey.
Technology
The technology in the Toyota Apex is excellent. An 8-inch touchscreen comes standard with 6 speakers, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and is compatible with Amazon Alexa. It has a USB media port, one USB charge port, hands-free phone capability, and music streaming via Bluetooth wireless technology. The Apex is also equipped with SiriusXM that comes with a 3-month All Access trial subscription.
Other features include the following:
Automatic climate control with a dust and pollen filter and push-button controls
Automatic engine shut-off
Premium sport seats with sport fabric inserts, a 6-way adjustable driver's seat, and a 4-way adjustable front passenger seat with a seatback pocket
60/40 split fold-down rear seat with center armrest and two cupholders
Power door locks with automatic locking feature
Front and rear power windows with one-touch auto up/down
Rear window defogger with a timer
Day/night rearview mirror
Driver and front passenger sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors
Overhead console with map lights
Center console with storage compartment
The 2021 Corolla Apex is also equipped with Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.0. This includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA), Automatic High Beams (AHB), Road Sign Assist (RSA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), and Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC).
Furthermore, the vehicle comes with a Star Safety System that includes Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Smart Stop Technology® (SST).
If that isn’t enough to make you feel assured when driving in the Apex, Toyota fit in ten airbags that include a driver and front passenger Advanced Airbag System, driver, and front passenger seat-mounted side airbags, driver knee airbag, passenger seat cushion airbag, rear side airbags, and front and rear side curtain airbags.
The Corolla Apex is about half an inch lower than the regular Corolla because Toyota added some new shocks and springs. Also, there are thicker anti-roll bars that contribute to the vehicles’ better body control.
Comfort
Essentially, the Apex’s cabin is not any different from any other Toyota Corolla at Toyota Irvine CA, which is a good thing. Everything inside the car is minimalistic, simple, and easy to use, and we love that! The touchpoints are soft, the steering wheel feels good to hold, and you don’t need a prescription from your optometrist to read the analog gauges. Also, the cloth seats have a good amount of comfort and support.
When traveling with very young children, you will be able to place them inside the vehicle with safety and ease, using the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) that includes lower anchors on outboard rear seats and tether anchors on all rear seats. There are also child-protector rear door locks, which give you that peace of mind that they won’t be able to open the car doors, especially when the vehicle is in motion.
Overall
The 2021 Toyota Corolla Apex is an affordable compact sports sedan that was missing in Toyota’s lineup, and we are glad it is finally here. It couldn’t have come at a better time, and we can all do with some end-of-the-year cheer. Certainly, this car can help brighten your day!
