With the increase in fuel prices, road trips are becoming a struggle for many families these days. Yet, it is still easier to throw the whole family in one car, than it is to buy multiple plane tickets. But if you have children, this is not always the most exciting prospect, especially with some of the boring drives in Utah. Following are some fun tips to keep the little rug rats entertained just a little better than normal.
Most parents will agree with me in thanking a man called Steve jobs. The iPad and iPhone may be the single most revolutionary pieces of technology to change the road trip since cars have been used. There are a number of games available to be downloaded for free, or just a small fee. Trust me, this investment is well worth it. They will be entertained for hours and the possibilities are endless. Games, cameras, and drawing pads are just a few of the easy to use features found on these devices.
If you can’t afford to buy multiple iPads, maybe just revert to the good old car games that were used when you were a kid. You simply take the name of an actor or movie character, then use the letter of their first name for the next name eg: Tom Cruise – Charlie Brown – Brad Pitt etc. Give a time limit and if a name can’t be given, that person is now out of the game.
It seems like a big investment at first, but the in-car TV screens provide children with hours of stress free entertainment. They also add value to your car if you plan on reselling it.
Have plenty of CD’s at your disposal. Sing a long with musicals and songs that kids love. The Disney soundtracks are used a lot, and seem to be classic favorites in the car.
These days you can pick these up for under $50. Make a list of different things that a camera can be used to capture along the way. It becomes a fun game. In Utah, you could name different cars, landmarks, animals or signs.
