It is back in the 1800s that camels were first brought down through the Australian ports for the Wills & Burke expedition, a journey that consisted of 19 individuals, out of which only one survived to return. Ultimately, around 20,000 camels were introduced for a massive network of camel train routes, that came out extremely useful in transporting goods across inland Australia. At Port Stephens, you can look forward to exploring the sand dunes that look as if they are stretching beyond the horizon on camel-back. Listen to the call of the desert and thrive in the sense of solitude you can only experience in a true desert atmosphere.
