The Best Family Activities in Maldives – Making Memories to Cherish

While the Maldives may be famed as being ideal for a romantic retreat or honeymoon, this tropical paradise is also perfect for a family holiday. Here are some of the best activities you can look forward to enjoying with your nearest and dearest.

1

Playing at the Beach

One of the best family activities in Maldives is to just enjoy all the fun playtime on offer and beachside bliss along the shore. Ideally, look to stay at a private island resort so you can have a relatively secluded beach where you can build sandcastles, play games or sports and even engage in some family tag! Best of all, your accommodation can be a beach villa which offers direct access to the shore so you can begin and end your day on sublime sands by the ocean.

2

Snorkelling in the Sea

Snorkelling is a family favourite and it is not hard to see why it is one of the most popular things to do in Maldives; no prior experience is needed, it can be tried by all ages and the crystal clear water offers amazing visibility of vibrant coral and equally colourful marine life. Some resorts will also offer free snorkelling equipment, access to lessons for newbies and even special snorkelling trips to some of the key areas for this activity. On your adventures, the kids are bound to recognise fish from Finding Nemo too!

3

Enjoying Water Sports

Looking for more family fun other than snorkelling? There are plenty of thrilling water sports in Maldives that can be tried out and will help ensure there will never be a dull moment on your holiday! Resorts the likes of SAii Lagoon Maldives offer access to a wide range of water sports ideal for various ages. Kayaking, heading out on pedalos, stand-up paddleboarding as well as taking fun tube and banana boat rides are not to be missed. Older kids are bound to also love jet-skiing, flyboarding, parasailing, wakeboarding and enjoying the SEABOB underwater scooter.

4

Taking Semi Submarine Rides

This activity is ideal if you don't have the needed scuba diving certification, but still want to witness some of the marine marvels that can be found beneath the waves. The great thing is, it is well-suited for the entire family who can have an underwater escapade without getting wet! Such special semi submarines are partly submerged at a depth of around 1.3 metres and feature windows from which you can take in the stunning views; from coral to fish and more there are many wonders of the sea to discover.

5

Dolphin Watching Excursions

There are around seven dolphin species that can be found in the waters around the islands and so it stands to reason that dolphin watching in Maldives is a great activity to enjoy! Certain resorts will provide guests with access to such excursions which make for a fun family voyage in search of these playful marine mammals. While sightings can't be guaranteed, you do have a good chance of spotting dolphins as they swim, frolic and sometimes even leap in the water.
