Fun facts about Hong Kong – Let these facts kindle your curiosity

Hong Kong is an interesting destination. Its attractions, people, customs, and beliefs are all interesting and try exploring at least some of them when you are there during your tour. Know them before you go, so that you will be able to notice them better when you are there.

1

It's a paradise for foodies

Hong Kong is one of the most preferred destinations among foodies. The reason for this is that Hong Kong is home to several restaurants that you can't even imagine! Every Wan Chai hotel in Hong Kong , for instance, the likes of Dorsett Wanchai Hong Kong introduces a different food culture to you, and they never forget to gift you with a great 'dim sum' experience too.

2

They have a problem with the number 'four'

Do not be surprised if you don't find a 'fourth floor' in most of the buildings you visit in Hong Kong. They think the word 'four' sounds like 'death' in Chinese and because of this reason, 'four' is often believed to be unlucky. So, in buildings there, you find the 05th floor right after the 03rd floor which is indeed a fun fact! For them, number 8 represents wealth, and therefore, that's a lucky number.

3

Feng Shui is very common here (Odd, but that's true)

Although Feng Shui means an uncommon practice for westerners, people in Hong Kong believe in this art. If you take a close look at the Central's HSBC Hong Kong building, you will note that the rooftop has two rods and their purpose is to deflect bad energy. This is one of the Feng Shui practices, and in Hong Kong, you can explore how these beliefs have come to real-life practices.

4

Hong Kong is rich (richer than you think!)

In Hong Kong, several entrepreneurs have taken their name (or their brand's name) to the world. In 2018, 67 citizens were holding personal fortunes of over 1 billion US Dollars. Hong Kong, today, has almost 7.5 million people and it's a fact that the majority belongs to the 'well-to-do' ones, unlike the other states.

5

Hong Kong is not just about one single island

Although the island of Hong Kong is what you must be knowing, there 263 other islands here. Islands such as Lantau, Lamma, and Cheung Chau are somewhat known among the tourist population and they can be reached by ferry rides. The others are not accessible, and they are not inhabited as well.

6

Typhoons are so common in Hong Kong

If you travel to Hong Kong from May to November, then you are sure to face some typhoons. There are scales that they have given to these tropical storms, and the people are quite used to the terms. If that's a T3 storm that means the school children should stay at home and if that a T8 or a T10 by any chance, public transport gets cancelled, and people should stay at home without even going to work.
