Water-Based Activities to do in the Maldives – The Paradise Awaits!

No tropical holiday in the Maldives is complete without engaging in some water sports and water-based activities. Of course, for the obvious reason that the Maldives is almost exclusively water, there will be such a load of fun things to do, you will have to pick and choose. Here's five!

1

Scuba Diving

The Maldives ranks very high on the list of top scuba diving locations in the world and with good reason. If you stay at resorts the likes of The Nautilus Maldives, you will find that scuba diving will always be part of the agenda. The waters are clear, and the temperature is perfect and there's a wide variety of house reefs and coral formations as well as marine wildlife thanks to the waters around the Maldives being named an International Biosphere Reserve. You can easily get your PADI qualification at a diving centre in most of the bigger resort islands and join a group in exploring under the sea.

2

Snorkelling

If you love marine life a lot and if you are constantly fascinated by the magic of the vibrant fish that live in coral reefs, you are going to be spending a significant amount of time in the Maldives paddling about. Most Maldives resorts will be able to provide you with basic snorkelling equipment, but you can always bring your own around. If you'd love to capture your little escapades bring a waterproof camera or a GoPro with you to shoot some spectacular scenes while snorkelling. It is a pastime that you can never get tired of.

3

Kayaking

One of the more slow-going water sports in Maldives that everyone can try is kayaking. You don't have to be athletically fit to try a little kayaking, just a little bit of hand coordination would suffice. Kayaking can take you places. It allows you the freedom to try your hand at island hopping on a small scale and you can take the time to slow down and feel yourself in your element right amid nature. Always make sure that you have taken adequate protection against the sun before you head out. Where a strong SPF cream and take a hat and sunglasses with you.

4

Glass Bottom Boat

A see-through kayak would mean you are able to see the corals and the fish without having to get your feet wet. You also don't have to put in any work because there will be someone else manning the boat. All you have to do is sit down, make yourself comfortable and watch the coral reefs pass by underneath. Keep your eyes open for distinct types of fish that you can later try naming. It is a great form of water-based activity especially if you are travelling with children.

5

Jet Skiing

If you aren't the type that enjoys going slow, then you will need to pick up your speed and get ready for some splashing with the jet skis. It is something that will require a bit of practice before you can get the hang of it but is such a fun way to both explore and experience the ocean.
