What is Chemical Sensitivity? People who are sensitive to a chemical get symptoms from exposure to low levels of that chemical - levels that do not cause symptoms in most people. For example, being near cigarette smoke or perfume or car exhaust may give someone sensitive to chemicals asthma or a headache. Many people can become free of symptoms by avoiding chemicals they are sensitive to. A few people make a full recovery and are no longer affected by low levels of chemicals. MCS is worsened by continued exposure to toxic chemicals. Occasionally MCS is fatal.

Alternative Medicine Australia: Alternative Doctors in Australia: Your Health

YourHealth owns and manages four Integrative Medicine (IM) centres across the eastern states of Australia and treat Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). IM is a powerful combination of conventional medicine and natural medicine that uses a preventative and holistic approach to empower individuals to achieve and maintain wellness. Some sensitive individuals are prone to reactions to any number of chemicals found in food (some natural), water, air, furniture, clothes and other materials, and are diagnosed with the condition of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). Often they can pinpoint the initial trigger and often describe "not feeling well since..." In some cases it is severely disabling or disruptive to a normal modern life.

It is essential that you be thoroughly assessed for other possible problems before this conditon be diagnosed. Like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, MCS does not have a specific set of symptoms or a specific diagnostic test and as such many people may go undiagnosed for many years.
