NSCC SHIFT Awards

The NSCC Entrepreneurship SHIFT Awards were created to recognize individuals who make innovative, positive and impactful entrepreneurial contributions in the classroom, on campus, within the College and our Nova Scotian Communities. There are award categories open to both NSCC students and employees and the awards acknowledge both entrepreneurship and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Community & Social Impact SHIFT Award

Community & Social Impact SHIFT Award

Awarded to a student demonstrating an outstanding generous spirit by way of support for community-based organizations and service projects.

Award Criteria:
An NSCC student who successfully supports efforts to help make Nova Scotia healthier economically, environmentally or socially and an even more vibrant and sustainable place to live, work and grow for future generations.

Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for an NSCC Entrepreneurship SHIFT Award in this category, nominees must:
• Be a current NSCC student; and
• A demonstrated commitment to community based organizations and/or service projects.

Entrepreneurship Awareness & Skills Development SHIFT Award

Entrepreneurship Awareness & Skills Development SHIFT Award

Awarded to a student whose efforts to learn and embody entrepreneurial skills have defined them as an outstanding advocate in creating and supporting an entrepreneurial culture within their peer group, at NSCC, and our province.

Award Criteria:
A student who has expressed and implemented entrepreneurial skills such as resourceful thinking, creativity, innovation, and risk taking. This student embodies and practices these skills in their everyday lives, supports others in their learning, and seeks opportunities to hone these skills and become more entrepreneurial.

Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for an NSCC Entrepreneurship SHIFT Award in this category, nominees must:
• Be a current NSCC student; and
• Widely recognized for having made a positive contribution to furthering NSCC's mission.

Business Innovation & Leadership SHIFT Award

Business Innovation & Leadership SHIFT Award

Awarded to a student with an outstanding record in the combined areas of business innovation and positive social conscience through leadership.

Award Criteria:
A student who has demonstrated confidence in empowering and leading their peers, individually or through positive team development; or a student who has applied their innovative and leadership skills to building their own business or helping someone else grow theirs. This student will be widely recognized as offering positive contributions to furthering NSCC’s mission of ‘Building Nova Scotia's economy and quality of life through education and innovation.’

Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for an NSCC Entrepreneurship SHIFT Award in this category, nominees must:
•Be a current NSCC student; and
•Be engaged in entrepreneurial activities or initiatives in the classroom, on campus, within the College or in communities

NSCC Employee Entrepreneurship SHIFT Award

NSCC Employee Entrepreneurship SHIFT Award

Presented to an NSCC staff/faculty member who leads by example and demonstrates awesome acts of entrepreneurial thinking and/or doing.

Award Criteria:
An NSCC employee who embodies the spirit of entrepreneurship at NSCC; an individual who has a different way of looking at things. This award recognizes an NSCC staff/faculty member who creates opportunities by supporting students in entrepreneurial endeavors. In addition, they have helped shift attitudes, and they aid in fostering a deeper understanding of entrepreneurship or entrepreneurial thinking at NSCC or in our communities.

Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for an NSCC Entrepreneurship SHIFT Award in this category, nominees must:
•Be a current staff or faculty member of the NSCC;
•Be recognized by students and/or other NSCC Staff/Faculty for their significant contribution to supporting students or other staff through entrepreneurial initiatives.
