Cultural Attractions in Chiang Rai – No rush, the city is all yours to explore

Chiang Rai is a Thai city that has plenty to explore. But, more often, people do visit its neighbouring city Chiang Mai, but not Chiang Rai. But this city is also blessed with numerous cultural blisses, and you may enjoy all of them without a big rush because it's often less crowded.

1

Chiang Rai Clock Tower

The Clock Tower in Chiang Rai is one of the most glorious monuments. Every day, from 7.00 to 11.00 in the evening, the clock tower will have a vibrant show with lights and sounds. If you stay at a hotel the likes of Hotel Sooknirund, you won't just miss this sight because the tower is at your doorstep!

2

Wat Rong Khun

Wat Rong Khun is the main attraction in the city and it's often called the White Temple too. This is a temple constructed in the 1990s and you can see some work still going on at the premises. This temple is painted in white (which is why it's called the White Temple) and covered with pieces of mirrors which is what you'll mostly love about this temple.

3

Mae Fah Luang Gardens

If you ever get the chance to grab one of the best Chiang Rai hotel deals and decide to stay one or two days here in this city, do not forget to visit this European style park 'Mae Fah Luang Gardens'. It offers a beautiful floral experience and has been created by the royal family of Thailand for the benefit of the locals who do not get the chance to travel much. There is a hill above the park, and once you visit it you come across a chalet- Doi Tung Villa that also has some special things to see such as the main hall.

4

Bandaam Museum

Black House is another name for the Bandaam Museum and is known among tourists for its unique appeal. This building has been created by Dr Thawan Duchanee and according to stories, his intention of this creation has been to reveal the darker aspects of the human mind. For this, he has included a torture chamber in one of the buildings and used black swans only to add beauty to the lake at the downside of the garden.

5

Pong Phra Bat Hot Springs

Although reaching the Pong Phra Bat Hot Springs means a 14km travel outside the Chiang Rai city, it's worth it! This environment has a rustic charm and foreign tourists often fall in love with this vibe. If you go there in the evening, you will also be able to have some amazing views of the sunset in addition to a good swim. To enter the garden, you will have to pay 10 baht and if you intend to use the pool, you will pay 20 baht. The signs you find will be in Thai, but other guests will surely be able to help you if you need some clarification.
