The city of Kandy is a must-visit destination when you travel to Sri Lanka because of many reasons. Being a Kingdom once upon a time, Kandy carries so much of heritage, and surrounded by the hills, it has a cool vibe that's simply amazing. Here are the top things to do in this city with pleasure.

Enjoy your time in peace at a good hotel

Because of the cultural and historical value this city has, Kandy has today become one of the most popular tourist destinations in Sri Lanka. No matter when you visit this beautiful country, Kandy will be crowded with tourists, and to accommodate them, there are bungalows in Kandy the likes of Mountbatten Bungalow which double up the holiday vibes of everyone. Spending some time at one of those in tranquillity is something that most of the travellers love to do in Kandy.

2

Not every temple houses Sacred Relics, and even if some of them do, they are not Lord Buddha's. Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic) in Kandy is one of the most sacred places in the whole Sri Lanka (and in the world as well) because it houses the Relic of Tooth of Lord Buddha. Even if you are not a Buddhist by birth, you should surely visit this temple, which looks like a palace, at least once in your lifetime.

Spanning over a land of 257 acres, Udawattekele Sanctuary is visited by almost everyone who visits the Dalada Maligawa. This is a significant Bio Reserve of the country, and this has been named as a sanctuary in 1938. Highlights of this attraction include the water pond, Senkada Cave, the Garrison Cemetery, and a few Buddhist Temples (meditation centres) and you will have to pay a small entry fee before entering the sanctuary.

4

Appreciate the beauty of a Botanical Garden

Located around 5 km away from the city of Kandy, Peradeniya Botanical Gardens is another great place to visit during your Kandy tour. With over 4000 species of plants, this garden is the largest in the country spanning across a land area of 150 acres approximately. There are many amazing collections of trees such as the Double Coconut Palm, Javan fig tree, and the Giant Bamboo of Burma that are all yours to explore when you are there.
