Steven Gerrard

Undoubtedly the best Liverpool player ever, Steven Gerrard is actually a product of Liverpool and has played all his footballing career for the Premier League club except for one season (2015-16) that he played for LA Galaxy. The great Liverpool player was born in May 1980 (Aged 40) in Whiston, Merseyside, England, and played all his career as a midfielder.

Steven Gerrard is not the only Liverpool footballer but also the only footballer in the world who has scored in four major European competitions finals, namely FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup, and UEFA Champions League, winning on each occasion.

He was also considered as the best footballer in the world in 2009 by the football legends, Pele and Zinedine Zidane.

In terms of the number of appearances for the England national team in its history, Steven Gerrard ranks fourth with 114 appearances he made for the team from 2000 to 2014. He also scored 21 goals for his country’s national team during the process.

Besides being one of the greatest Liverpool players of all time, Gerrard is also among the most honored English players too with more than 25 titles and trophies to his name.

Gerrard is the winner of FA England Player of the Year Award in 2007 and 2012, FIFA Club World Cup Silver Ball in 2005, and UEFA Club Footballer of the Year Award in the same year.

He was also named in the Premier League Team of the Year for 8 seasons, Liverpool Player of the Season for 4 seasons, and in MLS All-Star Team in 2015, the same year he played for the American club, LA Galaxy.

And all these are just a few of the 40-year-old English midfielder honors! He’s also an abductee of English Football Hall of Fame, and is a member of the Order of British Empire for his services to football.

He has also captained Liverpool more than any other player in the club’s history (473 times), and is the top Liverpool scorer in UEFA Champions League with 30 goals scored in the competition history. With all these honors and records, don’t you agree that he deserves to be the best Liverpool player ever?

Kenny Dalglish

Kenny Dalglish

The second best Liverpool player ever, Sir Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish, simply known as Kenny Dalglish, is actually a Scottish footballer who served Liverpool for more than half of his footballing career. And in the lesser half he served Celtic. In fact, he only served the two above-mentioned clubs during his career.

He also appeared more than a hundred times - actually 102 - for the Scottish national team between 1971 and 1986 scoring 31 goals for them in the process (almost one goal in every three appearances), and by doing so, not only he became the most capped Scottish footballer ever - he’s still - but also Scotland’s leading goalscorer, in fact, jointly with another top Scottish footballer, Denis Law.

Dalglish is one of those footballers who have managed the team they played for during their career as a player. He has actually managed Liverpool from 1985 to 1991 and in 2011-12 season.

He is also an inductee of both Scottish and English Football Halls of Fame and became a member of the Order of British Empire, just like Steven Gerrard, in 1985 for his services to football. As a manager, he was also named as the Premier League Manager of the Season in 1994-95 season.

Steve Mcmanaman

Known for his perfect dribbling ability and accurate passing, Steve Mcmanaman is one of the top players in Liverpool history and the first English player to have won the UEFA Champions League with a non-English club, namely Real Madrid.

Although having served Real Madrid and Manchester City during his footballing career, it was with Liverpool that Mcmanaman made the most number of appearances: 272 appearances which is almost three times more than the 94 appearances he has made for Real Madrid.

And the 48-year-old former English midfielder has scored most of his club career goals for Liverpool, too, namely 46 goals which are, this time, almost six times higher than the goals he has scored for Real Madrid.

So by all these records, we can consider him more a Liverpool player than a Real Madid one, although he has also won two LaLiga titles, one Spanish Super Cup, and two UEFA Champions League titles with the Spanish side.

Mcmanaman is actually a product of Liverpool. He was promoted to Liverpool’s senior team in 1990 and in just one year became a member of the English club’s first-team squad.

During his spell with Liverpool, Mcmanaman developed a reputation of being one of the top young English wingers of his own time, and indeed, he was. He was not only a good dribbler but also a good runner.

Kevin Keegan, who is also considered as one of the Liverpool top players ever, once said about Mcmanaman: “There are few finer sights in world football than the sight of Steve McManaman running down the length of the pitch.”

John Barnes

John Barnes

One of the most beloved and indeed best Liverpool players of all time, John Barnes is not originally an English footballer - as many think he is maybe because of his first name being John - but a Jamaican one, though he has also the citizenship of England meaning that he could have and actually have played for the England national team (between 1983 and 1995).

Barnes, whose complete name is John Charles Bryan Barnes, has only played for English clubs during his footballing career, and has served Liverpool more than any other English club with 314 appearances he made for them. During his spell with Liverpool, Barnes also scored 84 goals which translates to a little bit more than one goal in every 4 appearances.

But goals don’t matter since Barnes was also a beloved footballer! Barnes ranked fifth in a 2006 poll held to determine the Liverpool fans’ most favorite players. He was also named the best Liverpool player of all time by FourFourTwo Magazine a year later, and had already been inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame a year before, in 2005.

Like Steven Gerrard and Kenny Dalglish, John Barnes is also a member of the Order of British Empire for his services to football. The 56-year-old Jamaican-English winger was also named PFA Players' Player of the Year in 1988 and in PFA Team of the Century in 2007. And when with Liverpool, he won two First Division titles, two FA Cups, and one League Cup.

Jamie Carragher

Among few players in Liverpool history to have made more than 500 appearances for the English club, Jamie Carragher is not only a product of Liverpool but also has played all his club career for the same club.

That justifies his more than 500 appearances! Carragher was also a member of England national team between 1999 and 2010 and appeared 38 times for them during his international career.

Considered as one of the best players in the history of Liverpool, Carragher actually played as a defender for the English club and won a handful of trophies with them including two FA Cups, three League Cups, and two UEFA Super Cups.
