It was officially declared a global pandemic in March 2020 by the WHO. Though the exact origin is unknown, the virus wreaked devastation spreading quickly to other countries due to the extremely fast rate of infection the virus is capable of. So far it is supposed to only spread through droplet infection between people in close quarters.
If you follow strict hygienic practices like wearing a mask at all times and washing your hands as often as possible, you will be relatively safe from infection. However, it is a two-way street where no matter what precautions you take, if the people around you aren't taking the same precautions you could still end up catching the virus especially if community spread is occurring at a large rate as it is in the US and Brazil. The CDC has issued a set of guidelines that you should familiarise yourself with especially if you are planning to travel during this time.
For over three months all flights were grounded unless they were transporting important products or passengers from place to place. You will find that as of recently some flights have started but local authorities have asked to keep it to essential transport services only. But you can begin to book hotels online in some resort countries the likes of Seychelles, Portugal and Australia among others.
Cruise services were banned since late March but will be allowed to operate in September this year. The CDC has recommended that cruise liners ensure that all safety and hygienic precautions are taken. But at the same time, cruise liners tend to be susceptible to the virus due to passengers being forced into close quarters so if it is not imperative, forgoing cruise tours until the end of the year is highly advised.

Also, pick out travel destinations that have successfully freed themselves from the virus when you choose to travel and minimise the chances of being in places where you may be in close quarters with others.
