5 Most Beautiful Places in Zambia – The Varied Charms of this African Country

Despite being a landlocked African country situated to the south of the continent, Zambia is home to several beautiful places of note, the most famous of which is Victoria Falls that it shares with its neighbour Zimbabwe. Exploring Zambia's natural beauty should be on your bucket list, here's why.

1

Victoria Falls

They say that the first time David Livingstone saw Victoria Falls a hundred years ago, he intoned the following, "scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight." Victoria Falls truly is a breath-taking sight, so vast and so magical it will stop your breath the first time you set eyes on it. When you are visiting the falls, whether you approach it from the air like Livingstone's angels or Knife Edge Bridge, be prepared to be awestruck.

There are plenty of hotels in Livingstone Zambia where you could spend the night so take as much time as you'd like and explore the falls. Nearby hotels the likes of Royal Livingstone Hotel by Anantara can also provide tours if you inquire ahead.

2

Shiwa Ng'andu Manor

Shiwa Ng'andu Manor is located 19km from Kapishya Hot Springs and was built in the Great Rift Valley hundreds of years ago by an Englishman, Sir Stewart Gore Browne. The estate is vast and set on the way to plenty of other natural places of note that you can visit in Zambia like Chusa Waterfalls.

3

Lake Kariba

Lake Kariba which shouldn't be mixed with Lake Kashiba which is less than 2 hours' drive from Zambia's capital Lusaka has been revered as a weekend getaway that most people in the vicinity would go to if they have a houseboat that they can put out on the lake. You can also hire a boat and go out fishing and watch the sunrise and sunsets. It is a beautiful and quiet location with picturesque vistas.

4

Lake Kashiba

Lake Kashiba is one of Zambia's sunken lakes. It is a very unusual natural phenomenon that is caused by limestone erosion over a long period of time. These natural lakes are located in a town in Ndola called Mpongwe on the Copperbelt Province. The clear water is almost glasslike, and you can see the fish swimming beneath the surface. The crystal blue hue of the waters makes the experience with Lake Kashiba almost magical and otherworldly. Thanks to the fantastical nature of the lake it is part of many local myths and tales.

5

Sindabezi Island

If you are going to be spending time in Livingstone, be sure to also visit the small island of Sindabezi which is only accessible by boat and is a great spot for a private and romantic getaway for you and your significant other. You will get unparalleled views of Mosi O Tunya National Park and the breath-taking floodplains of the Zambezi River. The views will make you feel like the only two people on earth dining on a raised floating platform placed right in the middle of the river.
