Top Free Things to do in Brisbane – Plenty of Activities Minus the Costs!

With its blend of modern marvels, rich culture, natural riverside beauty and key attractions, Brisbane offers a truly enriching experience in Queensland for the whole family. One of the great things about this city is that it features a range of things to do for free.

1

Chill-out at Streets Beach

Amongst the best free things to do in Brisbane is to have a dip or soak up the sun at the Streets Beach which can be found in the CBD itself! This artificial beach in the South Bank features a huge lagoon area beside the sand and tropical greenery. Also in this area is the Boat Pool for more swimming fun and the Aquativity water park where kids can have a splashing good time.

2

Explore the QAGOMA

A combination of the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, QAGOMA is another popular site in Brisbane. Attractions such as this are not only free but give you a chance to view some truly inspiring works by local and international artists which encompass paintings, sculptures, pottery, photography and more. Another highlight here is the Children's Art Centre with its interactive programmes.

3

Enjoy City Sounds

A live music programme which can be enjoyed free of charge, City Sounds is the largest of its kind in the nation. It takes place at several venues around the CBD; these include places such as Reddacliff Place and Queen Street Mall, a short walk from properties like Oaks Brisbane Festival Suites. The great thing is, there is a changing line-up each week with bands and artistes from Australia as well as those touring the country.

4

Unwind at the Roma Street Parkland

The ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle, the Roma Street Parkland doesn't charge entry fee so you can relax amidst the picturesque lawns and gardens to your heart's desire. Just a short drive from hotel accommodation Brisbane CBD has to offer, the parkland offers BBQ facilities, playgrounds and even a free tour of this idyllic urban oasis.

5

Visit the Local Farmers' Markets

The Famers' Markets held in and around Brisbane are well worth a visit and provide a charming atmosphere to soak up some local culture. While there is no entry charge, you will find various stalls selling all manner of items with everything from fresh produce to handicrafts. Amongst the most popular are the Brisbane City Markets held at Reddacliff Place on Wednesdays and Cathedral Square on Thursdays.

6

Traverse the Brisbane Riverwalk

Linking the CBD with the neighbourhood known as New Farm, the Brisbane Riverwalk is a specially built path constructed over the Brisbane River. There are areas for both cyclists and pedestrians perfect for those looking to get in some recreation while doing some exploring. It also offers an ideal vantage point to take in activity along the river.

7

Catch the Sunrise from Mt Coot-tha

The early bird not only catches the worm but also some sublime sunrises from the summit of Mount Coot-Tha! Head to this spot in the suburbs at dawn and glimpse the city being christened once more by the glorious rays of the sun. Can't get up in time? You can always visit the nearby Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium (at the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens) where no entry is charged for the display zones.
