7 Dishes to try in Kuala Lumpur -Tease your tastebuds!

Owing to its multicultural and multi-ethnic population, Malaysia has a vibrant food culture that is an amalgamation of different cuisines. If you are visiting here anytime soon here are five dishes that you must try.

Nasi Lemak

Served at many of the eateries that are located around popular attractions and Apartment Hotels in Kuala Lumpur the likes of Somerset Kuala Lumpur, Nasi Lemak is Malaysia's national dish. It is a surprisingly simple dish that is made with very little ingredient but it has a unique flavour that makes you come back for more! Nasi Lemak is made with coconut rice, a type of shrimp paste, fried anchovies, peanuts and a hardboiled egg. It is also very cheap yet quite filling. More modern versions of this dish also come with a choice of fried or grilled chicken.

Curry Laksa

Being another staple Malaysian delicacy that is loved by many, Curry Laksa is a curried noodle soup that includes an assortment of unique meat vegetables. Due to the use of a variety of unique ingredients and traditional spices, the soup is extremely flavourful and delicious. Traditional varieties of Curry Laksa usually include rice noodles, prawns, bean sprouts and tofu. The dish is served hot with scallions sprinkled on top, a wedge of lemon and soy/fish sauce with chillies on the side.

Char Kuey Teow

Being a noodle dish which has its originated china, Char Kuey Teow is made from a type of flat rice noodles which is stirfried with ginger, garlic, eggs, beansprouts, prawns and sometimes Chinese sausages. You could also ask them to add chilli sauce if you want it spicy.

Roti Canai

This being another staple dish in Malaysia, is usually had during breakfast. This is a type of flatbread which is made with a lot of butter and oil. It has a flakey and fluffy texture along with subtle crispiness on the outside. This dish is commonly served with a host of side dishes such as meat curry and lentil soup which when combined with the bread gives a delectable taste that will make you want more!

Bak Kut Teh

This dish translates to pork 'bone tea' in Chinese however, this dish has no association to tea. Rather it is made by stewing pork rib for a prolonged period in a special broth with Chinese herbs and spices. This makes the meat extremely tender and juicy. The cooked pork is served with the broth and it also comes with onion rice and fried dough, an assortment of vegetables and a spicy chilli sauce.

Chicken Rice

This dish is so simple and delicious you would at least try this twice during your time in Kuala Lumpur. This dish is made with rice that is usually cooked in chicken stock, garlic and ginger and it is served with boiled or roasted chicken accompanied by a chilli and ginger dip.

Roasted Pork Rice

This is very similar to chicken rice but the only difference is this dish is served with a strip of perfectly roasted pork belly that is so juicy it literally melts in your mouth.
