Yala National Park

Dambulla Cave Complex

A UNESCO world heritage site that is located in the central province in the country, Dambulla Cave Temple, is an iconic remnant of ancient Sri Lanka. Also identified as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, it is one of the best-preserved cave temples in the country. Many primitives built their lives around these caves until the arrival of Buddhism. With more than 80 caves discovered in this region, it is considered as the largest cave complex in the whole of Sri Lanka. The cave in which the temple lies towers almost 160 metres above the other caves at the site. Scattered among five different caves, you can find the major attractions of the place, including 160 statues of Lord Buddha and other deities.
