Things to do Around Canton Fair in Guangzhou – An amazing place to visit

The city of Guangzhou is very exciting and urban to the last square meter of its area! Nonetheless, the local culture is ever visible here among all the office buildings, malls and business hotels. If you are planning on a holiday here, it will not be in vain with so many things to explore especially near Canton Fair.

1

Huacheng Square for a stroll

This place has turned into one of the most famous shopping destinations around here. Huacheng Square has been built over 560, 000 sqm and has an amazing view of the Canton Tower and the Pearl River. The urbanity of the place is evident in the surrounding here with as many as 39 buildings which are considered architectural beauties. Guangzhou No. 2 Children’s Palace, Guangzhou New Museum and Guangzhou Opera House are a few.
Below the square is a shopping mall that spreads across 150, 000 sqm and contains three levels. This mall has parking options and is even connected to the metro lines for easy access.

2

Guangzhou Library for a cultural twist

This is one of the most iconic buildings in the city and is shaped like a Chinese character. The library is located in Flower City Square and is thought to be the city’s living room. Inside are all sorts of literary works from history to modern-day business, fiction, non-fiction and much more. Not only does the library have books, but digital and audio-visual materials are also being collected for use. Exhibitions, lectures, public education, art appreciation and many similar events are constantly taking place here.

3

Canton Tower for a thrilling ride

If you are in Guangzhou, then Canton Tower is a must-visit attraction that isn’t very far from popular Guangzhou accommodation options. The tower is the second highest in the whole of China and is beautifully lit up by night. But the most interesting part of it all is that this building is the only one with a horizontal Ferris Wheel! Yes, you’ve read it right, it’s a horizontal one that rotates right at the top. There are glass cable cars that can fit in about 4 people at a time for the thrilling experience. But that’s not all! There’s an open-air skywalk as well where visitors will have to physically climb up the tower, open-air gardens, restaurants, gaming centres and much more.

4

Guangzhou Opera House

This building is the brainchild of Zaha Hadid, an Iraqi architect. The concept of the entire complex was to make it look like two pebbles washed ashore by the Pearl River and it turned out to be an insane piece of architecture praised by Jonathan Glancey, an architectural critic. The main part of the auditorium is lined with gypsum that has been reinforced by glass. The inside is as futuristic as it gets, spacious and bright and you’ll simply have to see this for yourself.

5

Zhujiang Park

If you are interested in nature and Chinese culture, then leave your comfy room at Somerset Riviera Guangzhou for the evening and set off on a relaxing walk at Zhujiang Park. The paved pathways and the brilliantly landscaped greenery are something to marvel at indeed. The place is brimming with tranquillity in the midst of a city.
