5 Water Sports That You Must Try in Krabi Thailand – Have Some Fun in the Water!

Krabi has slowly started to become the next big tourist hotspot in Thailand. When you take a look at the raw natural beauty the region has to offer, it isn't hard to figure out why either. The pristine beaches and calm water found here are perfect for an array of water sports – here're 5 you should try out.

1

Snorkelling

The coastal waters that surround the Krabi region contain a vast amount of fringing coral reefs. These vibrant habitats are bursting with life – from colourful reef fish to rare sea turtles. One of the best ways to experience this fantastic menagerie is to grab your snorkelling kit and go exploring beneath the waves. You can even book yourself for a short snorkelling course with an instructor if you're a complete beginner. Most major Ao Nang beach hotels – such as the Avani Ao Nang Cliff Krabi Resort – will include snorkelling on their itinerary list, so be sure to check if they provide their own tour sessions as well.

2

Scuba-Diving

Snorkelling is a fantastic activity to try out, but it will restrict you to the shallower regions of the seas that surround Krabi. If you really want to explore the ocean with the chains off, scuba-diving is the way to go. Diving beneath the waves of the Indian Ocean and descending to the blue depths can yield amazing experiences you aren't likely to forget anytime soon. This includes getting up-close and personal with some of the largest living creatures on earth like the titanic whale shark – the world's largest extant fish!

3

Kayaking

Considered to be one of the most environmentally-friendly water sports to engage in, Kayaking can be a fun and relaxing way to spend an afternoon in Krabi. There's an array of spectacular limestone cliffs and cave networks that border the beaches of Krabi. Paddling away on your kayak is the best way to explore these ancient natural wonders. These excursions are also a great way to spot some of the unique wildlife that frequents the area – these include rare endemic bird varieties and curios cave denizens.

4

Boating and Sailing

Boating and sailing is another excellent way to explore the coast of Krabi, and there is much to see here too. In particular, consider taking a boat along the mangrove swamps that filter into the ocean. These can be private menageries full of life and insane natural beauty. Keep your eyes peeled on the canopy for majestic fishing eagles and curious crab-eating monkeys. You can take a boat all the way along the mangroves back towards the town itself and immerse yourself in the local culture for a bit too.

5

Deep-Sea Fishing

Deep-sea fishing can be a thrilling excursion whether you're a beginner or a seasoned angler. Tussling with oceanic giants can be both exhilarating and rewarding. There's quite a variety of big game fish to wrangle within the Indian Ocean. You might want to try your hand first at tackling midweight fish like barracuda and groupers. If you're feeling particularly daring, however, keep heading out into the ocean and you might just hook goliaths like sailfish, marlin, tuna and even sharks!
