Maldives is a country that mostly has the Islamic community. So, needless to say, all these Muslim festivals are grandly celebrated in this country. In addition to all these, there are also some other festivals, and this article will talk about all those in detail.

Eid-Ul-Adha

It's a famous annual Muslim festival celebrated not only by the Islamic community of the Maldives but also by every Muslim in the world. They also call the same by different names such as the 'Festival of Sacrifice'. 'Eid-e Qorban' and 'Qurbani Eid'. Observances on this special day include the sacrifice of a sheep, a cow, or a buffalo and if you are holidaying somewhere around this festive season at one of the Maldives private villas, you'll be able to hear Eid prayers from most of the parts of the city.

Ramadan

The Maldives is the grandest during the Ramadan season. This month, the Islamic community is in a habit of fasting and this tradition generally goes on for 30 days.

As per the Islamic calendar, this day has a lot of religious significance and this is the reason why Maldivians celebrate it with many colourful events. Many people engage in a charity where they donate food and other goods to the needy, while also actively attending to big parades across their streets. They do not also forget to decorate their mosques with beautiful decorations in celebration of the Prophet Mohammad's Birthday.

Republic Day

On this day, Maldivians share the joy of their country becoming a republic. To celebrate Republic Day, there are many special events organized by the political parties and government authorities and they are mostly held in the capital island of Male. There are also some special types of food called as 'Republic Day foods' that include huni hakuru folhi (a special sort of a coconut cake), bodibaiy (a special type of a rice snack) and masroshi (a fish-stuffed pancake).

Victory Day

The Maldivian government was once attacked by a terrorist group of another country, which, however, did not succeed. Although their mission was to overthrow the government, they could not accomplish it, and they went back. This day is celebrated even today as the Victory Day, and it also has diverse celebrations of its own.

Independence Day

Another very important public holiday in the Maldivian calendar- the Independence Day of the Maldives falls on 26th July every year. The Maldives is a country that has been ruled by the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the French and finally, they also had to spend a rough time under the power of the British. But, on 26th July 1965 everything ended successfully, and this marked total independence to the Maldivian people. Male becomes quite eventful with many parades and other vibrant celebrations of Independence, and these elements have won the attraction of tourists as well.
