Listly by Kyle Hunt
No one ever wants to experience the gut dropping feeling imaginable if your car were to plummet off a Utah bridge and into water; how on earth would you escape? Luckily, there are some methods of escape that have proven successful. Below I’ve listed the four steps to escape a sinking car.
While you are falling, place your hands at the ten and two position. If you are in any other position when your Ford Escape air bag explodes, it could cause serious damage.
As soon as you hit the water open the window. A Ford Escape’s electrical system should work for up to three minutes in water, but better not to test it; open it as soon as you can. If the window will not open break it with an object or your foot.
As soon as the window is broken, swim out. If there are children in the vehicle get them out first. You will have to swim strong against the water piling into your Ford Escape, but studies show it can be done and that using the window to escape is a much better method than waiting for the car to fill up and attempting to open the door.
Swim to the surface. If you don’t know which way to swim look for light or follow bubbles. If you aren’t in Utah, and there is an ice covering above the water, look for the obvious hole created by your Ford Escape’s impact. Do your best to avoid injury and, as soon as you surface, seek medical attention.
