05 Must-try Snacks in Thailand – Snacking Has Never Been This Fulfilling!

Got a case of the munchies or just craving a comforting snack? The next time you are in Thailand (or if there's a Thai market or shop nearby) look to try these delectable delights that have distinctive flavours that are bound to entice you to try more.

1

Thai Crispy Pancakes

Also known as Thai crepes, this popular snack can be found at many street-side stalls and eateries. You get both a savoury and sweet version of this traditional snack called "Kanom Bueang", which is freshly made on grills or hot pans. Depending on your mood, you can try savoury toppings which can have ingredients like coconut or diced shrimps that have been stir-fried; the sweet variety can come with a meringue filling and a topping made from syrup-boiled egg yolks.

2

Koh Kae Peanuts

This Thai snack seems to be a perennial top choice amongst locals be it for parties or picnics and comes in easy to carry cans so you can conveniently take it around with you. The peanuts that have been coated in coconut flavoured shells are naturally addictive and you will be munching them in blissful delight in no time! What's great is there are a variety of flavours to choose from; wasabi and tom yum are popular for those looking for a spicy "kick", while you get a coffee flavour variety too.

3

Mango Sticky Rice

Part snack, part dessert, mango sticky rice is a must-try foodie favourite when it comes to Thai cuisine; in fact, when in search of Bangkok hotel packages, look to also find properties that serve this dish! It is made using fresh and juicy mango slices, glutinous rice and coconut cream. Depending on where you try this dish you will even find variations in terms of the rice used; for example, properties such as Chatrium Residence Sathon Bangkok offer black & white sticky rice as part of this delectable dessert creation.

4

Fried Chicken Skin

Locally referred to as "nang kai thot", this crispy and savoury snack is perfect when you need something to munch on or even as an accompaniment to a beer-drinking session! As you may have guessed from the name, chicken skin is used; after being cooked in boiling water, the skin pieces are coated in flour and various seasonings; ingredients can include soy sauce, cilantro powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper. After being deep-fried till they are golden brown, these crispy snacks are sometimes served with a sweet chilli sauce which adds to the flavour.

5

Crispy Seaweed Strips

Another crispy snack that is quite popular in Thailand is crispy seaweed strips from manufactures like Tae Kae Noi. Known for its umami factor, the fried seaweed strips are seasoned to perfection with ingredients such as salt, white pepper powder and palm oil and feature proteins and minerals as well. While you get fried, roasted and grilled seaweed varieties, flavours can vary as well and options include tom yum goong and hot & spicy. Tae Kae Noi has launched a new and novel flavour too; bubble milk tea!
