Canada always seems to secure a top spot on many polls conducted to find out the world's safest nations. However, it is not to say that the country is completely free of violence and crime. There are reported cases of homicide, theft, and abductions in Canada just like any other country in the world. But what makes Canada special is that its crime rate is quite trivial compared to that of the surrounding countries. For instance, in 2010, around 550 cases of homicide were reported in Canada compared to the whopping 40000 cases in Brazil, 25000 in Mexico, and 12000 in America. Gun ownership is significantly lower than the United States, mostly because the Canadians feel a lot safer in their country.
