A List of Attractions in Hefei – Where to visit when in Hefei

Now you might have heard about all those wonderful sites in China that are touristy and have much to see, Hefei, on the other hand, isn't one of them. Instead, the destination is a hidden gem with historic spots and attractions to visit.

Lord Bao Park

Long long time ago, during the rule of the Song Dynasty, there came a ruler named Lord Bao who turned out to be one of the most respected feudal lords in all of China. This park was built in memory of this great leader. Within the complex are three main attractions which are Lord Bao's Tomb, Qingfeng Chamber and Memorial Temple of Lord Bao. One can also visit the Floating Village and the footprint of Lord Bao. Placed down Wuhu Road, this attraction is ranked AAAA. Inside the memorial hall is a massive statue of Lord Bao, seated and holding a sceptre in one hand and a pen in the other. One can almost tell what the ruler must have been like with on look at this work of art.

Xiaoyaojin Park

It's sometimes hard to believe that this very serene sight was once a battlefield in the period of the Three Kingdoms. There is much to see and experience on the inside, a few attractions to see would be Dujin Bridge, Xiaoyao Pavilion, Xiaoyao Lake, Xiaoyao Villa, a Children's Playground, an Amusement Park, the statue of Zhang Liao, a Lawn Square, a Culture Corridor. The south gate of the park is said to be about 10 meters high with a tablet at the top that reads Ancient Carefree Ford. Recreational facilities are abundantly available here with electric trains and cars, pirate ships, flying chairs, flume rides, air bicycles and much more.

Mingjiao Temple

Being about 1500 years old, this temple covers about 4000 square meters and is more than 5 meters in height. What is interesting about this temple is that 1700 years ago, a general by the name of Cao Cao instructed his troops on how to block the attacks by the navy of the East Wu Kingdom on this very platform. Enter the hall of the Heavenly King and here you will be able to learn the stories of the past at the Showroom of the Heritage of the Three Kingdoms. Here you will see all sorts of ancient weapons used by those 1700 years ago. Between the main hall and the front hall is a courtyard with large incense holders from which smoke looms out, in the main hall are five statues of Buddha. On the left side of the hall is a magnificent bell built during the reign of Emperor Daoguang.

Mount Jiuhua

Boasting nothing but the best when it comes to views, this is one of the most scenic spots in Hefei. It is also revered as a sacred mountain according to Buddhists with several shrines built on it. The name of the mountain, Jiuhua Shan means Nine Glorious Mountains. History records that a Silla prince who resembled the Dizang Bodhisattva once climbed the mountain and cultivated for 5 years. Although he passed away at the age of 99, his body remained undecayed. Therefore, people believe that he was a reincarnation of this Bodhisattva.

Places to stay

With all these attractions to visit, if you plan on coming to visit you will be needing accommodation in Hefei. But this is no issue despite not being much of a touristy area. Luxury hotels like Somerset Swan Lake Hefei are always available and located in a convenient spot as well.
