Top Areas to Kayak in Halong Bay – Discover a World of Wonder

The spellbinding beauty of Halong Bay has to be experienced first-hand to be truly believed and one of the best ways to do this is by kayaking in its pristine waters. Here are some of the top sites where you can enjoy this activity and discover wonders both in the water and on land.

1

Luon Cave

On Bo Hon Island you will find the relatively small Luon Cave which is around an hour away from the Doan pier in Halong City. The cave which is similar to a tunnel cannot be navigated by large boats which is why making use of a kayak (or a small sampan boat) is ideal for some exploration. Approximately 60 metres in length, this site has a small lake and one will have to crouch somewhat when exploring it during high tide with the rise in the water. On your adventures, also be on the look-out to spot golden monkeys!

2

Light and Dark Cave

This site is relatively unknown amongst the many attractions in Halong Bay. While it is a bit far off, the journey here will be made worth your while as you begin a kayak exploration amidst emerald waters, limestone karsts and intriguing wonders that await within the cave. There are, in fact, two caves here; one of them is the Light Cave which is naturally lit by shafts of sunlight which shine through gaps in the rocks. The Dark Cave, true to its name, offers reduced visibility so artificial light will be needed when here. Both offer fascinating formations and backdrops to take in.

3

Trinh Nu Area

Those planning to combine a Halong Bay private boat cruise with some kayaking can head to areas such as Trinh Nu. Such excursions are offered by the likes of Bhaya Cruises which not only give you a chance to enjoy this activity but also visit one of the most well-known sites, the Trinh Nu Cave. Referred to as the "Virgin Cave", this site is connected to a local legend which tells of a tragic love story of a fisherman's daughter and her fiancée; a formation in the cave can be found which represents the girl, while a formation of her lover can be found in the opposite Trong Cave and add to the site's allure.

4

Dragon Eye Island

Featuring a lovely stretch of white sandy beach, Dragon Eye Island is also a popular place for kayaking in Halong Bay. You can look forward to exploring along emerald ocean waters, while more discoveries await on the island itself. Apart from its ancient forest, here you will find a magical lake with crystal blue waters set amidst limestone mountains; pictures of it are bound to get you plenty of Instagram likes too!

5

Cong Do Island

In the south-eastern area of Halong Bay, you will find Cong Do Island where more kayaking escapades are on offer. Blessed with rich coral reefs and majestic natural landscapes, this area provides adventures and relaxation in equal measure. The reefs are home to vibrant tropical fish as well as sea horses which can be seen when snorkelling. Those exploring the island will come across the Cay Bang and Tra Gioi beaches, as well as the magnificent Cong Do Lake, surrounded by forests.
