Top Five Hidden Gems in Bangkok – Heading Off the Beaten Path

Researching the many attractions in Bangkok to visit on your trip? While there are certainly plenty of sights worth adding to your itinerary, don't forget that within this vast city you will also find hidden gems when it comes to sightseeing; here are a few worth visiting.

1

The Amulet Market

While there are plenty of markets in Bangkok, a very unique experience awaits those who visit the Amulet Market which can be found near Wat Mahathat. At this site, you will find a number of stalls selling all manner of sacred amulets, trinkets and charms of all sizes and shapes; some claim to be blessed by monks, while others are said to be made from revered objects. From offering good health and protection to helping to ensure a bountiful harvest, these amulets are in demand by locals as well as tourists in search of a one of a kind souvenir.

2

The Artist's House

Also known as Baan Silapin, The Artist's House in Bangkok offers fascinating insights into local art. Located near the Chao Phraya River in the Thonburi area, this gallery can be found in an age-old house that is centuries-old; on your way to it, you will pass some intriguing statues beside the water too. Those visiting The Artist's House can look forward to seeing masks, paintings and even an Ayutthaya-period stupa. Not to be missed is the chance to witness a traditional puppet show featuring performers dressed in black.

3

Benjakiti Park

Amidst the hustle and bustle, there will be times when you just want to unwind away from it all; the good news is that there are some idyllic parks in the heart of the city where you can do just that! Benjakiti Park, located within a 10-minute drive from properties such as Avani Atrium Bangkok Hotel, is just such an urban sanctuary where you can relax amidst greenery and lakeside views. There are spots for picnics, playgrounds for kids and paths for jogging, cycling and walking when in need of some recreation too.

4

Bangkok Forensic Museum

The Bangkok Forensic Museum (also known as the Siriraj Medical Museum) can be found within the Siriraj Hospital and you can easily plan a visit here from a hotel in Asoke. Inside, one will find six different museums spread across two buildings that showcase items that are scientific in nature, but can be rather gruesome too; these include preserved babies with genetic disorders, body parts of genetic anomalies, dissected bodies, organs with parasitic diseases and even a section with the remains of a serial killer. Remember, this is not a place to visit for the faint-hearted!

5

Caturday Cat Cafe

If you love all things feline or just miss your pet kitty while on holiday, then make sure to head to the Caturday Cat Café in Bangkok; what could be more relaxing than spending time enjoying snacks and tea amidst the company of all manner of cats. Located close to the Ratchathewi BTS Station, this café is home to various feline residents who can be petted or played with, if they are in the mood to of course. You can even buy special snacks to feed them and enjoy a (pardon the pun!) pur-fectly fun time.
