Muscat is the capital city of Oman and is located on the Gulf of Oman enclosed in the beauty of mountains and golden desert around. There is much to see and do in Muscat, here are a few places you might want to visit during your travels here.

The Royal Opera House

The Royal Opera House is the grandest of places here in Muscat and is a prized possession of the country. It is a wonderful landmark worth exploring. Or why not come for a show that might pique your interest? There are performances from all over the world from ballets to classical music performances. Definitely interesting to watch.

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

This is yet another architectural masterpiece that is awe-inspiring to see. Within the walls of the mosque is the world's second-largest carpet that apparently took as long as 4 years to be completed. The interiors are exquisite as well with one of the largest chandeliers in the world! The prayer hall is big enough to accommodate about 20,000 people.

Local food

The local food is delicious with flavours that are so refreshing to the palate. Try out the main dish which is called Omani Shuwa. Ingredients include tender marinated with spices and cooked to perfection. Also, try out desserts like lugaymat which is tasty fried dough served dripping with date syrup.

The National Museum

Want to learn more about Oman? The National Museum here is the perfect place to do so! The exterior is a modern façade that in complete contrast to the displays that lie inside the shelter! Al Alam Palace

It is simply amazing that this place holds a history of about 200 years and is yet in use! This is the residence of the current Sultan of Oman. You will not be allowed to go inside but taking pictures from the front gate is allowed. The outer part of the palace is decorated in blue and gold. The palace looks its best at night when it is grandly lit up.

Water Sports

For those who are into water sports, there is much to do here. Explore the corals in the gulf with a lovely boat ride or a snorkel session, watch the dolphins and engage in fishing as well.
