Singapore is one of the destinations that most people who love travel would want to visit first. Its urban fascia is really fascinating. But that's not all there is to Singapore, there are plenty of things to do and see here. Given in this article are five reasons as to why Singapore is a wonderful family destination.

The melting pot of cultures

Singapore is blessed with various cultures due to those who came into the country to settle from long time ago. Because of this, there are so many festivals celebrated here with much colour and splendour across the country. The year begins with the celebration of the Chinese New Year, where the roads, especially Chinatown, is decorated to glory in red and gold with Chinese lanterns and fairy lights all over the place. In June the Muslim community celebrates Hari Raya Puasa, one of the most important festivals for devotees. There are lovely sweets tor try out during this time served at hotels and restaurants. When the end of the year comes, the Indian community celebrates Deepavali which lights up the roads and shops. You'll be able to get a beautiful henna tattoo and try yummy curries.

If you visit Singapore, you can't help but have as a taste of the local cuisine. Offering coconut milk-based soups flavoured with tasty spices and served with noodles are specialities here. the local cuisine simply put is an amalgamation of cuisine from all the communities that live in Singapore and thus has something for every palate.

When it comes to shopping, it is widely known that Singapore is the spot to be. High-end malls down Orchard Street hold some of the world-class brands for sale. Not to mention, these malls also offer state of the art cinema complexes, game arcades and restaurants that serve up some of the most amazing food and drinks. There are also a whole host of bargain shops at Bugis Street. You can also explore the boutique shops down Haji Lane. Did you know that there's a mini Orchard Road too with 4 malls? From June to August, there's the Great Singapore Sale that takes place with massive discounts throughout the entire island.

Recently, Singapore has been showing trends towards the art side. There are a number of galleries to visit here where many artists have displayed their art for people to see. The art lovers will love Art Week that often happens here with loads of colour and creativity. Or you could go to one of those mega music festivals that so often take place here with several artists. Even kids can have fun with art and creativity at places like the Science Centre Singapore where many an interesting Singapore school programme takes place.
