5 Must-Do Things in Hong Kong – For a full experience

What comes to mind when you think of Hong Kong is sure to be the flashy malls, the upmarket restaurants and simply everything expensive. While it is quite an expensive destination, there is much more to Hong Kong than meets the eye. Here's how to explore what Hong Kong is all about!

1

Shop

The streets of Hong Kong are lined with interesting shops on either side. The LED boards displaying the shop names are quite colourful indeed, adding some vibrance to the tar road. There are plenty of big malls as well as street markets selling all sorts of trinkets. If you are looking for the cheapest place to buy some stuff, Mongkok is the place to be. Not far from hotels like Dorsett Mongkok, the street markets are bursting with crowds. Clothes, shoes and electronics are all available here for a good price. But keep in mind that for the major brands and designer items, you'll have to check out the mall and stuff here is sure to be pricey.

2

Ferry rides and island hopping

Done with the busy streets and the crowded city? Its time for a small change! How about a ferry ride across the waters to Kowloon? This island of Kowloon too, is an interesting place to visit. Island hopping too is an activity that is worth your time. Lantau, Sai Kung, Cheung Chau and Lamma are a few islands you ought to visit. There are plenty of hiking trails to discover, great beaches for a laze and wonderful seafood restaurants to keep your taste buds on the go!

3

Take the Peak Tram

Visit Victoria Peak on the Peak Tram which runs every 10-15 minutes. This is one of the most touristy things to do in Hong Kong, therefore, you've got to excuse the length of the queue for the tram. It'll cost not more than 25 HKS to get you there. The best part of it all is that there is a big mall here and the place is also crowded with restaurants and cafes. But the highlight of this location is none other than the best panoramic view of Hong Kong. Take out your camera and snap away!

4

Munch on Dim Sum

Dim Sum is a much-loved favourite among locals and visitors in Hong Kong. There are still places out there that traditionally sell the dish. Maxim Palace in City Hall is one of the best places to try out Dim Dum. They've got trolleys going from table to table where you will be able topic what you prefer and they are tasty, not to mention, the desserts here are the best as well. If you are lodged at a Hong Kong budget hotel somewhere around, set out on a hunt for the best local delights in town for an unforgettable experience.

5

Drink some Chinese Tea

One of the best things to experience here is by visiting a tea house for some Chinese tea. There are not many tea houses in Hong Kong anymore. However, Luk Yu Tea House is one that still serves in traditional style. The inside of the tea house looks grand with wooden booths, marble tabletops, stained glass and much more embellishment in various forms.
