Fun Things to Do in Siem Reap – An Unforgettable Holiday Awaits!

The magnificent complex of Angkor Wat may dominate when it comes to the top attractions in Siem Reap, but a visit here is not the only experience worth looking forward to. Here are some other fun and captivating things to do when at this city in Cambodia.

1

Tour a Floating Village

Many Asian communities live in and around waterways and this is true in Cambodia too where you can see what is known as a floating village. These habitations can be found on Tonle Sap Lake within easy reach of Siem Reap and include the villages of Chong Kneas and Kampong Khleang. Amongst the highlights one can look forward to seeing are unique floating houses, schools, restaurants and more! Another sight of interest that you will come across are stilted villages; houses are built on tall stilts to keep them dry during the wet season when the water rises.

2

Ride the Angkor Eye

One of the best things to do in Siem Reap is to take a ride on the newly opened Angkor Eye which was opened in March 2020. Located near the Cambodian Cultural Village, this 85-metre Ferris Wheel is the first of its kind in the country and one of Asia's largest. Ideal for young and old alike, the Angkor Eye features a total of 48 cabins that can each hold up to four people; the ride takes around 18 minutes and offers some stunning 360° vistas of the countryside along with glimpses of the Angkor Wat Complex too.

3

Embark on a Foodie Tour

No trip is complete without sampling some delectable local cuisine be it at markets, roadside eateries or the top restaurants in Siem Reap including dining venues such as Chi Restaurant and Bar. Foodies have much to look forward to; local favourites include the pork and rice dish called "bai sach chrouk", the flavour-filled Khmer red curry and a fish fillet known as "fish amok". Of course, those with a sense of culinary daring can also look to try some of the more exotic dishes on offer including deep-fried tarantula!

4

Explore Pub Street

Some place names are self-explanatory and Pub Street is a great example of this; one of the hotspots in which to enjoy the nightlife in Siem Reap, this locale is packed with pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants. Also known as Street 8, Pub Street is closed to traffic after 5:00pm so you can wander along safely on your bar hopping adventures. Amongst the venues worth patronising are The Angkor What? Bar, YOLO Bar, X-Bar and the Temple Club.

5

Visit Night Markets

Another great nightlife activity and fun thing to do in Siem Reap is to visit some of the city's night markets. Several of these markets begin in the morning or the evening and stay open till late. You can look forward to purchasing souvenirs, carvings, clothing, silk and handicrafts as well as trying yummy local dishes or even getting a massage! Places to visit include the BB Angkor Market, Angkor Night Market and the Siem Reap Art Centre Market.
