Top 5 things to do in Nuwara Eliya – Enjoying the Little England of Sri Lanka

If you visit Sri Lanka during a holiday, one of the not-to-miss destinations in the country is Nuwara Eliya- the Little England of the country. Since this region has completely different weather compared to the rest of the country, everything you do here will be absolutely special.

1

Visit a tea plantation

Ceylon tea is a brand that we all love. Thanks to its amazing taste, no matter how stressed we are, we can expect a complete relaxation in just one sip. Nuwara Eliya is one of the main areas in the country that grows tea in massive scales, and here in this colonial city, you find many tea plantations. Once you choose a good hotel such as Galway Heights for your stay in Nuwara Eliya, you can just head to one or two of the many plantations at any time you want. You can also visit a tea factory if you like, and just explore how Ceylon tea is manufactured quite systematically.

2

Chase some amazing waterfalls

Waterfalls are a beautiful creation of mother nature and the best waterfalls in Sri Lanka are found in Nuwara Eliya for sure. There are many waterfalls in this region such as the Ramboda Falls, Lovers Leap, Glen Falls, and Bomburella and all of them are amazing in their own ways. There are many top hotels in Nuwara Eliya that are located somewhat closer to these waterfalls, and many honeymooners do prefer to spend their romantic getaways in such venues amidst the blessings of nature.

3

Have fun around Lake Gregory

Although Lake Gregory is busy in the mornings and in the evenings alike, it's more eventful in the evenings. There are many fun and exciting activities (including games) that you can try out around this lake, especially if you are with the family. You can always try the water sports available there, and to entertain your taste buds, there are many small boutiques selling snacks and various food items quite close to the lake.

4

Explore the Horton Plains

If you are someone who loves wildlife and some quality time with nature, then this is a must grab experience. Horton Plains is located 32 kilometers from Nuwara Eliya and you will need to hire a taxi/ tuk-tuk to reach the entrance through very narrow and steep roads. One of the most popular spots here is the World's End, and to witness the ultra-clear views of the surroundings, you will have to be there before the rain and the mist sets in.

5

Visit the Moon Plains

In the local language, this attraction is called 'Sandathenna' and is, of course, a great experience to have at least once in a lifetime. Moon Plains is an ideal place to go if you want to capture the panoramic views of mountains in Sri Lanka because at the viewpoint, you are able to see 9 mountain ranges in the country including the Pidurutalagala (the highest mountain in Sri Lanka), Kirigalpoththa, Single Tree Mountain and Thotupala Mountain.
