If you are looking for a coastal escape in Phuket where you can experience both beachside bliss and fun activities, then Mai Khao Beach is the place to go to! Here are some of the things you can look forward to enjoying.
The largest beach on the island, this stretch of shore is perfect for those looking to just laze in the sand, soak up the glorious sunshine and watch the waves gently rolling in. The beach which covers an area of around 11 km is connected to the Sirinat National Park on the island's northwestern coast and offers a more secluded setting as well. It's also a great place to enjoy some yoga too!
The active type will be pleased to know that there are some water sports they can try here as well. Of course, while Mai Khao Beach may not offer quite the range of water-based activities as other Phuket beaches, there are nevertheless some good options; these include windsurfing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. It is also possible to go on diving excursions that will take you to sites rich in marine wonders.
For some, this activity may not sound that great, but then, that is probably because they haven't been to Mai Khao Beach! Those staying at nearby properties such as Anantara Phuket Suites & Villas can easily make their way to the southern end of the shoreline which is near a runaway of the Phuket International Airport. From here (especially from 10:00am to 2:00pm) you will be able to capture some truly incredible pictures of planes coming in to land or taking to the skies.
On the shores of the beach, you will also find the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation which is doing its part towards turtle conservation in Phuket. Luxury villas and resorts nearby provide guests with an ideal chance to visit this foundation and learn more about marine turtles, some of which come to the beach to nest. You can also observe disabled or injured turtles at this site who have now found a safe and secure home here.
Within easy reach of the beach is the Splash Jungle Water Park which is a great place to cool off and share some family fun. The site features a variety of water slides and rides which offer varying degrees of thrills, while professional lifeguards are present too. There's an Aqua Play Pool for younger kids, while those with a need for speed can try Boomerango or the Super Bowl.
If you still want more adrenaline-pumping action then head to the nearby IWP International Wake Park which offers unforgettable experiences. An ideal place to enjoy wakeboarding in Phuket, this site features a manmade lake and a special cable system that provides a speed-filled "ride" on a wakeboard. What's more, there's also a flow rider here for those who love surfing!
