Things to plan before a trip to Singapore – Get organised before you visit the Lion City

Singapore is an amazing tourist destination, and although tiny has a lot to offer for the discerning traveller. Do plan ahead to make the best of your time in the Lion City.

1

Time to visit

There is no best time to visit Singapore; it is a destination that can be visited at any time of the year. However, most consider December one of the best times of the year to visit. The Christmas lights, musical fare and festivities make it a magical time to visit.

2

How long should I stay?

You should keep aside at least a minimum of 4 days to explore Singapore! Make a rough itinerary to suit your budget. Though keep in mind that Singapore is one of the more expensive destinations in South East Asia.

3

Attractions to visit

Make note of the attractions you want to cover given the space of time you have. It is good to get a flight that lands in Singapore in the daytime preferably in the morning. If you are not too tired start off the mid-morning or late afternoon with a bus tour on a Fun Vee bus. Or a night safari is an option after a morning rest. The following days make time to visit Bay South Garden or even Gardens by the Bay. The latter is free which a bonus! Sentosa Island deserves at least one full day of exploration, so keep one or two days for that. While there you can decide which amusement/theme parks you want to visit, so do some research and book your tickets before arrival. Universal Studios is a popular choice and you will need a full day for that. There are other options such as a River Safari, Singapore Zoo or the Jurong Bird Park for nature lovers. Other free attractions are the Tooth Relic Temple of the Buddha and the Botanical Gardens.

4

Shopping

Of course, you can't come to Singapore and not take advantage of the amazing shopping available here. Make a note of the centres you want to visit. However, if you are pressed for time Orchard Street will be the place to explore. You will find all types of shopping malls catering to different types of budgets there.

5

Budgeting

According to most sources, an average traveller will spend around $ 1000-1300 for a 3-4 day/night trip. If you are staying at super luxury accommodation be prepared to spend around $ 2100-2500 per person. Accommodation will take the bulk of your expenses; however, the budget stays at a clean hostel will only cost you around $ 15 a night. A more comfortable hotel room, on the other hand, will cost $ 25-30. Of course, Singapore has amazing super luxury accommodation if you have the money to splurge. These can cost starting from $ 150 a night. Apartment hotels in Singapore is also an option, where you can get a serviced apartment based on your needs. Citadines Balestier Singapore is an option worth considering while there.
