If you don’t know your weapon like the back of your hand, you probably aren’t ready to go hunting. Another important thing to consider is finding yourself a teacher. Whether you’re attempting to hunt in Utah or the Rockies, nobody learns something well with no instruction; hunting is no exception. In order to help you learn how to become a good hunter, and to get you home safe at the end of the trip, I’ve listed some key tips below.
If you are serious about hunting, you will get to know your gun. You will be much safer in the woods if you know how your gun performs at each of the different hunting ranges you will be shooting at. You should be aware of how your gun fires and of specific distances you can shoot in different situations.
Having the proper equipment can mean the difference between a successful day and a horrible experience. If you’re hunting in Utah, hunting boots are an essential; they are waterproof and will keep your feet warm in most situations.
Learn the hunting laws in the state you live in. If you are hunting in Utah, the laws will be different than if you were hunting in Arkansas. Be sure to do your research and abide by the law.
To be sure you learn how to hunt safely and expertly, invite someone you know is a seeded hunter. Have your friend or family member teach you how to look for signs of game, how to use your scope and how to close in for the shot.
