5 Easy Steps to Use a Gun Cleaning Kit

A dirty gun can be a dangerous gun; guns can misfire if there is buildup in the barrel. Keeping your gun clean allows your gun to stay safe and look good too. Whether you spend time hunting in Utah or just own your gun for target practice, keeping your gun clean is extremely important. Cleaning out your gun is actually not as difficult as it seems. There are a few simple steps that will get you from a dirty and dangerous weapon to a clean, safe gun.

Prepare to clean your gun by making sure the gun is safely unloaded and place a thick layer of newspapers on your work surface.

2

Cleaning Rod

Cleaning Rod

Slide the cleaning rod into the bore, making sure the rod does not touch the sides of the gun barrel. Keep the road straight and work it up and down the barrel at least 10 times to remove all the built-up debris. Removing the debris will make your gun much safer and less likely to misfire.

Cleaning Patch

Cleaning Patch

Place a solvent-soaked-cleaning patch to the tip and run it through the barrel. When the patch becomes dry, replace it with another one and repeat until the patch comes out clean. You should be able to find cleaning patches and extra rods at many Utah sports and recreational stores.

4

Wipe Down And Oil

Wipe Down And Oil

Use more cleaning patches moistened with solvent to wipe down the gun action and then wipe dry with another patch or a clean rag. Lastly, run an oiled pad through the barrel, making sure all surfaces get a light covering of oil. Wipe off any excess oil and you’re all set!
