Dirty windows making you anxious because you have a get together or event coming up?
Tired of not being able to enjoy as much natural light come through your home as you once had?
You look through them everyday. Your windows might as well be clean. Here is a list of 5 tips I have learned to make sure your windows sparkle year round.
Windex is good for small jobs and mirrors. Your windows though get more of a beating throughout the year and need a bit of a stronger solution to really work out that dirt and grime and truly have a streak free shine. The simple solution is one part white vinegar to two parts water. It works extremely well when mixed together and then sprayed using a spray bottle.
Have you ever been cleaning your windows and looked back only to see that they were just as bad or even worse than before? This might be due to the fact that those windows were in direct sunlight when you were cleaning them. You need to make sure that when you are cleaning your windows, either inside or out, that you pick a cool, cloudy day so that your window cleaning solution and soapy water do not dry on your windows before you have had the chance to squeegee it off. Working on a cool day will eliminate that chance and make your windows shine.
Any other rags or paper towels will either not dry the windows enough and you will leave streaks or leave behind lint or dirt which doesn't look good to anyone. Use a couple of lint-free towels and if they become saturated with water, get another one. You are going to need a couple depending upon your home or office because these towels need to be dry in order to get the cleaning solution off and leave behind a streak free window.
Your outdoor windows receive all that nature has to offer and this can cause them to collect a lot of dirt, grime, and mineral deposits. Make sure to use a garden hose to really get that first layer of gunk off your windows before you start cleaning them. Also, for those mineral deposits, I recommend a commercial cleanser like CLR. Products like these are specifically designed for those pesky water spots and mineral deposits. Just follow the manufacturer directions when using.
Your lower level windows are obviously often easy to get to but your 2nd or 3rd floor windows are not. Before you simply start grabbing your ladder, make sure you have an ample amount of space and self awareness that you know how to handle yourself 10 or 20 feet up in the air. Ladders are one of the leading causes of injuries with DIY projects so Please Be Careful. If you simply do not feel comfortable 20 or so feet in the air, you are not alone. Call a professional with the experience and know how to clean your windows effectively, efficiently, and most importantly safely.
