5 Packing tips when travelling to the Maldives – for a great holiday

Travelling is an absolute joy indeed as there is always something new waiting to be experienced in a new destination. If your destination this time around happens to be the Maldives, here are a few tips on what to pack to help you make the most of your island holiday here.

1

Types of luggage

When travelling, it is important that you choose the right type of luggage to pack your stuff into. This decision will depend on what you are planning on doing when you arrive at your destination. Rolling luggage is ideal if you plan on going from place to place and changing hotels often as it is easy to drag about. A duffle bag is lightweight and perfect for a weekend getaway. Carry-on bags save you the trouble of waiting for your luggage to come along.

2

Get your clothing in order

Sometimes you might be comfortable having your entire wardrobe with you while you travel, however, it is not the practical thing. Therefore, before planning on what clothes go with you, it's better to make a list of what you want to do once you arrive. Once that’s sorted out, pack clothes that are suitable for each activity and also consider the culture of the country you are travelling to. For example, if you are travelling to the Maldives, make sure to pack in a few long dresses, pant and t-shirts that cover your shoulders.

3

Toiletries

Besides your clothes, your toiletries are essentials that will need to go with you. Also, remember that these are the heaviest items you’ll be packing. Try to be minimal on this, yet don’t forget the most important items like perfume, a toothbrush and toothpaste, shaving kit and body lotion. Soaps and shampoos are often provided by the hotel, so you might be able to cut down on that, still if you feel the need to take your shampoo, pack wisely.

4

Pack you carry-on

Well, a carry-on bag must be something easy to lug around and should hold the items that you’ll need to tag along with you wherever you’ll be going. The items that come in here would be your phone charger, earphones, sunglasses, earplugs and the keys to your luggage.

5

Important travel documents

Travel documents are by far one of the most important things that need be with you all the time. Your passport, tickets, frequent flyer cards, insurance cards, debit and credit cards and hotel loyalty cards should be things that you shouldn’t forget. If you are heading straight to your accommodation such as Niyama Private Islands Maldives, once you arrive at one of the Maldives overwater bungalows, recheck if all your documents and important items are intact and nothing is lost. Unpack the set of clothes you’ve planned on wearing for the next day or two. Once all this is done, simply take some time off and relax, perhaps have a small nap so your energy will be back in no time.
