Independence Square

The Independence Square marks the day Sri Lanka gained independence from the British on the 4th February 1948. Surrounding the stone memorial Hall is a lush green park which has been developed into a walking path encouraging the city's residents to come out and enjoy the surrounding. The place also has some statues of important members of Sri Lanka and is a great location to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Shopping Malls

After facing a nearly three-decade civil war Sri Lanka has been growing for the past decade allowing many international brands and shopping malls to open doors to locals and tourists. Some of the shopping malls are large and exciting and most popular international brands such as Gucci and Armani. Apart from the leading designer brands, you can also find popular high-street brands such as Mango, Levi's and US Polo. Most of the shopping malls also have a cinema and a food court which encourages locals and tourists to spend long hours shopping and mingling. Some of the finest shopping malls have state-of-the-art cinemas which is one of the main attractions.

Fine dining restaurants

Apart from the fancy shopping malls, another delightful experience in Colombo is the fine dining restaurants that are located within the main city itself. There are restaurants that serve Sri Lankan cuisine with a modern twist along with Chinese, Italian, German and Japanese cuisines along with unique experiences. There is the main restaurant and a few other restaurants in every single luxury hotel. Colombo is home to some of the finest hotels from around the world making it home to some exquisite restaurants as well.

Beach life

Even though Colombo is not popular for its beaches there are several beaches you can go to in order to enjoy the sun, sand and the sea. The Mount Lavinia beach is definitely the most popular beach and there are so many different restaurants, pubs, and bars located inland of the coast line which makes it the perfect location to go and enjoy a cold drink while sitting on the sand and enjoying the breeze and the warm sun. Being an island Sri Lanka boasts of some of the fresh seafood which you can find being cooked in many different ways in the various restaurants located along the coastline.

Fort and Pettah

Fort and Pettah which is Colombo 1 and 2 respectively are two old cities within Colombo but are still extremely important due to the various buildings that are located in the are. The Fort Railways Station is one of the oldest buildings in Colombi which was built by the British during the colonial era. Pettah which is a few metres away from Fort is a lovely place to wonder about and go street shopping while experiencing the life that prevails within these streets and buildings.
