The Independence Square marks the day Sri Lanka gained independence from the British on the 4th February 1948. Surrounding the stone memorial Hall is a lush green park which has been developed into a walking path encouraging the city's residents to come out and enjoy the surrounding. The place also has some statues of important members of Sri Lanka and is a great location to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. If you are staying at a city hotel such as Residence by Uga Escapes you can hop into a tuk-tuk to get to Independence Square.

The Mount Lavinia beach is definitely the most popular beach and there are so many different restaurants, pubs, and bars located inland of the coast line which makes it the perfect location to go and enjoy a cold drink while sitting on the sand and enjoying the breeze and the warm sun. Being an island Sri Lanka boasts of some of the fresh seafood which you can find being cooked in many different ways in the various restaurants located along the coastline.

Fort and Pettah

Fort and Pettah which is Colombo 1 and 2 respectively are two old cities within Colombo but are still extremely important due to the various buildings that are located in the are. The Fort Railways Station is one of the oldest buildings in Colombi which was built by the British during the colonial era. Pettah which is a few metres away from Fort is a lovely place to wonder about and go street shopping while experiencing the life that prevails within these streets and buildings.
